recently pertaining to a point of time preceding another point of time, but with a relatively short interval For languages which do not have an adverb meaning ‘recently,’ one can always introduce an equivalent approximate statement in ACT 18:2, for example, ‘he met a Jew who only a few days before had come from Italy.’ One cannot be certain as to the interval of time, but a phrase such as ‘a few days before’ can be a satisfactory equivalent.

προσφάτως, “*recently”” (Ac 182), occurs in P Par 63¥4i-10 (B.c. 164) ταύτην (sc. αἵρεσιν) γὰρ ἀπέγνωκα ἴδιον προσφάτως [π]Ἰροσειλῆφαι (1.---ἣφθαι) φίλον. It is also found in Polybius, LXX, and Aristeas, which demonstrates its genuine vernacular character, as P Par 63 by itself would not do. We can also cite it from OG/S 3158 (B.c. 164-3) τῶ ἀδελ)]φῶι ἐληλυθότ[ι] πΙροσ]φάτως ἐπὶ t[d] στ[ρα]τόπεδον : cf. Epicurus 222. ad matrem fr. 11 B 4 (Linde p. 48) and Diog. Oenoand. p. 604 (ed. William), cf. p. xxvii. ff.
