ἀνέλεος (~ ἀνίλεως ) [page 41]
This remade form in Jas_2:13 may be illustrated from P Lips I. 39 .12 (A.D. 390) τύψας με [ἀν ]ελεῶς though, of course, thus accented, it comes from ἀνελεής . Whether this last is any better Attic than ἀνέλεος may, however, be questioned, unless we postulate it as the alternative to νηλεής , from which the Attic ἀνηλεής came by mixture. But the solitary grammarian whom Lobeck ( Phryn. , p. 710 f.) quotes for it is not very solid ground.
