This rare word = council, as in Act_25:12 , is well illustrated by P Tebt II. 286 .15 (A.D. 121 138) where the presiding judge is described as ἀνασ [τὰ ]ς εἰς [σ ]υμ [βούλιον κ [αὶ σκεψάμ [ενος . . . (as restored by Wilcken Archiv v. p. 232) : cf. also Act_26:30 . Other instances of the word are BGU I. 288 .14 (A.D. 138 161) κ [α ]θημέν̣ω̣ν̣ ἐν συμβουλίῳ ἐν τῷ πραι [τωρίῳ , II. 511 i. 15 (written c. A.D. 200) ἐ ]ν συμβουλείῳ . . . . ἐκάθισεν , and P Ryl II. 75 .29 (judicial proceedings late ii/A.D.) ἐν τῷ συμβουλίω̣ ε̣ἶ̣π̣ε̣ν̣.
