ἀντίληψις (L T Tr WH ἀντίλημψις; see Mu), ἀντιλήψεώς, ἡ (ἀντιλαμβάνομαι), in secular authors, mutual acceptance (Thucydides 1, 120), a laying hold of, apprehension, perception, objection of a disputant, etc. In Biblical speech aid, help (Psalm 21:20 (cf. ); 1Es_8:27; Sir_11:12 Sir_51:7; 2Ma_15:7, etc.); plur, 1Co_12:28, the ministrations of the deacons, who have care of the poor and the sick.

ἀντίλη (μ )ψις [page 48] Like the verb, the subst. frequently has the meaning help in petitions, e.g. P Par 26 .40 (B.C. 163 2) (= Selections , p. 17) δεόμεθα οὖν ὑμῶν , μίαν ἔχουσαι ἐλπίδα τὴν ὑφ᾽ ὑμῶν ἐσομένην ἀντίληψιν , ἀποστεῖλαι ἡμῶν τὴν ἔντευξιν ἐπὶ Διονύσιον , we beg you, therefore, having as our one hope the assistance that lies in your power, to send away our petition to Dionysius, P Amh II. 35 .57 (B.C. 132) τυχόντες τῆς παρὰ σ̣[ο ]ῦ ἀντιλήψεως , P Grenf I. 15 .1 (not later than B.C. 146 or 135) σῆς δικαίας ἀντιλήψεως , BGU IV. 1187 .27 (i/B.C.). It should be noted that the μ which WH insert in the noun in this last passage begins to invade it even in the earlier documents : cf. Proleg. p. 56. Thus P Lond 23 .20 (B.C. 158) (= I. p. 38) ἧς ἔχετε πρὸς πάντας . . . ἀντιλήμψεως , and the same phrase in P Tebt I. 43 .29 (B.C. 118) : cf. P Tebt II. 283 .20 ff. (B.C. 93 or 60) τούτου δὲ γενομ [έ ]νου ἔσομαι τετευχὼς [τῆ ]ς παρὰ σοῦ ἀντιλήμψεως , for if this is done I shall have gained succour from you (Edd.). Later examples of the word are P Fay 296 (A.D. 113) διὸ ἐπὶ σὲ τὴν καταφ [υ ]γὴν ποιησάμενος ἀξιῶ ἐάν σοι φαίνηται ἀντιλήμψεως τυχεῖν πρὸς τὸ δύνασθαί με ἐπιμένιν ἐν τῇ ἰδίᾳ διευθύνων τὰ δημοσίᾳ , and BGU II. 613 13 (time of Antoninus Pius) δεόμενος τῆς ἀπὸ σοῦ ἀντιλήμψεως τ̣[υχεῖ ]ν .
