The word in its sense of foster-child may he illustrated from P Oxy X. 1284 .12 (A.D. 250) ἀπὸ τῆς ἑαυτοῦ τροφίμ (ου ) μη (τρός ), from his foster-child s mother, ib . VI. 903 .3 (iv/A.D.) ἅμα τῶν τροφίμ [ω ]ν μου , along with my foster-daughters. For ὁ τρόφιμος (as frequently in comedy), the young heir, see Menander Ἐπιτρέπ . 160 : cf.
