B.C. 103) ο [ὐ ] τυχόντως πλεῖστα κακολογηθείς , being abused in the most unmeasured terms. (6) The impersonal ace. abs. τυχόν (cf. 1Co_16:6 ) occurs in the iv/B.C. letter, written on a leaden tablet, which Deissmann ( LAE 2 , p. 151) reproduces, where, in asking for certain articles of clothing, the writer adds τυχὸν ἀποδώσω , upon occasion I will return them. For the pleonastic τυχὁν ἴσως see Menander Ἐπιτρέπ . 287. MGr retains this use in τυχόν (ε ), perhaps. (7) For the strong perf. τέτ (ε )υχα Heb_8:6 ΰ c BD c E, cf. PSI VII. 816 .10 (ii/B.C.) ἔσομαι τετευχὼς τῆς παρ᾽ ὑμῶν ἀ̣[ντιλήμψεως ?, similarly P Tebt II. 283 .21 (B.C. 93 or 60), and from the inscrr. τυγχάνω [Etym: Root ΤΥΚ] "to hit", esp. "to hit a mark" with an arrow, Hom. , etc.: he mostly constructs it with acc., when the object hit is alive, with gen. when it is lifeless; so, τ. τοῦ σκοποῦ Xen. ;—a prep. is sometimes added, κατὰ κληῖδα, κατὰ ζωστῆρα τυχήσας [τινά] Il. ;—absol., ἤμβροτες οὐδ᾽ ἔτυχες id=Hom. ; the part. τυχών is often joined with βάλλειν, οὐτᾶν, etc., id=Hom. "to hit upon, light upon": "to meet by chance, meet with, fall in with" a person, absol., Od. ; c. gen., Aesch. , etc.:—aor2 part. ὁ τυχών, "the first one meets, any one", Lat. quivis, Hes. , Plat. , etc.; οἱ τυχόντες "every-day men, the vulgar", Xen. ; so, τὸ τυχόν "any chance thing", Plat. "to meet with, hit, reach, gain, get, obtain" a thing, and in the past tenses (like κέκτημαι), "to be in possession of, to have", c. gen., Od. , etc.:—after Hom. also c. acc., τ. μισθόν Hdt. ; τὰ πρόσφορα Aesch. , etc.:—gen. pers. added, "to obtain" a thing "from" a person, τ. τί τινος Soph. ; τινὸς παρά τινος Od. also in bad sense, βίης τυχεῖν "to meet with, suffer" violence, Hdt. ; τ. κακῶν Eur. absol. "to happen to be at" a place, εἴπερ τύχηισι μάλα σχεδόν if "by chance she be" quite near, Il. etc. of events, and things generally, "to happen to" one, "befal" one, "fall to" one's "lot", c. dat. pers., id=Il. , attic; also "to turn out well", Od. impers., ὅπως ἐτύγχανεν as "it chanced", i. e. "without any rule, indefinitely", Eur. ; ὡς or ὥσπερ ἔτυχεν Xen. ; ὁπότε τύχοι when "it chanced, sometimes", Plat. joined with a part., τὰ νοέων τυγχάνω which I have "just now" in my mind, Hdt. ; ὃ τυγχάνω μαθών which I have "just" learnt, Soph. ; ἔτυχον στρατευόμενοι they were "just then" engaged in an expedition, Thuc. ;—in phrase τυγχάνω ὤν, simply = εἰμί, Aesch. , Soph. , etc. the part. is often omitted, ἔνδον γὰρ ἄρτι τυγχάνει (sc. ὤν) Soph. ; εἰ σὺ τυγχάνεις ἐπιστήμων Plat. :—sometimes indeed τυγχάνειν is used very much like εἶναι, τ. ἐν ἐμπύροις "to be engaged" in sacrifice, Eur. ; ὡς ἕκαστοι ἐτύγχανον just as they all "were", Xen. in many phrases it is easy to supply a part., ὅ τι ἂν τύχωσι, τοῦτο λέγουσι they say whatever "comes uppermost" (i. e. ὅ τι ἂν τύχωσι λέγοντες), Plat. neut. part. τυχόν, absol. like παρόν, "since it so befel", Luc. as adv.
