made of dust, made of soil (derivative of χοῦς ‘dust,’ 2.15) pertaining to being made or consisting of dust or soil Though in general χοῦς and the derivative χοϊκός would seem to refer to dry dust, they may also refer to dirt or soil. In 1CO 15:47 it is more appropriate to speak of the creation of Adam as ‘made from the ground’ or ‘formed out of soil.’ For another interpretation of χοϊκός in 1CO 15:47, see 1.42.

of earth, earthly, made of earth pertaining to having the nature of earthly existence in contrast with that which is heavenly or of heaven It may even be possible in rendering χοϊκός in 1CO 15:47 to say ‘created out of earth’ or ‘made from dust’ (see 2.16).
