βοηθός [page 114] The word is very frequent in the ostraca for the assistants of the πράκτορες or tax-gatherers, see Wilcken Ostr. i. p. 618, and for a similar use in the papyri the editors note to P Fay 34 .3 (A.D. 161) βοηθοῖς γεωργῶν κώμης Πολυδευκείας , where they translate assistants in connexion with taxes upon cultivators at the village of Polydeucia. A.D. 346) (= II. p. 298) μετὰ τὸν θεὸν οὐδίναν ( l. οὐδένα ) ἔχομεν ἡμῆς βοηθόν , after (i.e. except) God, we have none to help us (Ed.); also from ii/B.C., P Leid E .26 δεόμεθά σου μεθ᾽ ἱκετείας , καθότι οὐ διαλείπις ἡμῶν ἀντιλαμβανόμενος , καὶ ἐν τούτοις βοιηθὸν γενόμενον προσκαλέσασθαι κτλ .
