Biblical sanctification is a transformative process by which believers are set apart for God's purposes and grow in holiness. Rooted in the work of Christ, sanctification is both a definitive act and a progressive journey. As Paul writes in 1 Thessalonians 4:3, "For this is the will of God, your sanctification," indicating that it is God's desire for His children to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:29). This process involves the active participation of the believer, as described in Philippians 2:12-13, where Paul urges the faithful to "work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." The mortifying power of Scripture plays a crucial role in this journey, as believers are called to put to death the deeds of the body through the Spirit (Romans 8:13). Furthermore, 2 Corinthians 3:18 assures us that as we behold the glory of the Lord, we are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. Ultimately, sanctification is a lifelong process that leads to a deeper relationship with God, reflecting His holiness in our lives.
