Divinity

1 sermons

In the Bible, "divinity" generally refers to the nature or quality of being divine, which encompasses attributes such as holiness, omnipotence, omniscience, and omnipresence. The term is often associated with God and the essence of His being. For example, in Colossians 2:9, it is stated that "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form," highlighting the belief in the divine nature of Jesus Christ as fully God and fully man. This encapsulates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, where divinity is expressed through the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each fully possessing the nature of God.Moreover, the concept of divinity also extends to the idea of divine beings or heavenly hosts, as seen in passages like Psalms 82:1, which states, "God presides in the great assembly; he renders judgment among the 'gods'." Here, the term "gods" can refer to divine beings or spiritual entities, but it underscores the supremacy of the one true God over all other forms of divinity. Overall, in the biblical context, divinity encompasses both the nature of God and the acknowledgment of His ultimate authority and power over creation.
