Eyewitness Testimony

The concept of eyewitness testimony plays a significant role in the Bible, particularly in the New Testament, where the apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ are described as eyewitnesses to his life, death, and resurrection. As the Apostle Peter writes, "For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty" (2 Peter 1:16). The value of eyewitness testimony is also emphasized by the Apostle John, who notes that he and others have "seen and heard" Jesus, and therefore can bear witness to his identity and message (1 John 1:1-3, John 19:35). This emphasis on eyewitness testimony underscores the historical and personal nature of the Christian faith, as expressed in passages such as Hebrews 2:1-4, which highlights the importance of paying attention to the testimony of those who have seen and heard the Lord.
