General Revelation

4 sermons

General Revelation refers to the knowledge of God that is accessible to all people through nature, history, and the moral law inscribed in human hearts. As Paul articulates in Romans 1:20, God's invisible attributes, including His eternal power and divine nature, are clearly perceived in the things that have been made, leaving humanity without excuse. This revelation invites every individual to acknowledge their Creator, as seen in Psalms 19:1, which declares that "the heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork." Through the beauty and complexity of creation, God communicates His existence and character to all, regardless of their geographical or cultural context. Furthermore, in Acts 17:26-27, Paul emphasizes that God has determined the times and places in which people live, so they might seek Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us. This understanding raises profound questions about those who have never heard the Gospel, a topic explored in sermons like "What About Those Who Never Hear?" Ultimately, General Revelation serves as a foundation for recognizing the need for Special Revelation, where God fully reveals Himself through Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ, as indicated in John 1:12, where it states, "But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." Thus, General Revelation is both a call to worship and a reminder of our responsibility to respond to God's revelation in our lives.
