Gifting

2 sermons

In the Bible, gifting often refers to the various ways in which God bestows abilities, resources, and spiritual gifts upon individuals for the purpose of serving others and glorifying Him. The concept of gifting can be seen in both the Old and New Testaments. In the New Testament, particularly in passages like 1 Corinthians 12 and Ephesians 4, the Apostle Paul discusses spiritual gifts—special abilities given by the Holy Spirit to believers to edify the church and fulfill God's mission. These gifts include teaching, healing, prophecy, and serving, among others (1 Corinthians 12:4-11). Moreover, gifting in the broader sense also encompasses the material gifts and resources that one might share with others. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, Paul emphasizes the importance of giving cheerfully, highlighting that God loves a cheerful giver. This reflects the biblical principle of stewardship, where believers are called to manage their God-given resources wisely and generously. Ultimately, gifting in the biblical context is a manifestation of God's grace, intended to foster community, support one another in love, and advance the kingdom of God on earth.
