Ministry Motives

1 sermons

Ministry motives are foundational to the effectiveness and integrity of Christian service, as they determine the heart behind actions taken in the name of Christ. The Apostle Paul emphasizes the importance of pure motives in 2 Corinthians 5:9, stating, 'So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.' This pursuit of pleasing God should be the driving force behind all ministry endeavors. Moreover, in Matthew 6:1-4, Jesus warns against performing acts of righteousness for public recognition, urging believers to give in secret, thereby ensuring that their motives remain aligned with humility and devotion to God. The call to serve others is echoed in Galatians 5:13, where Paul instructs the church to 'serve one another humbly in love,' highlighting that love must be the underlying motive for ministry. Additionally, James 4:3 reminds us that prayers and requests can be hindered when asked with selfish motives, reinforcing the need for self-examination in our spiritual pursuits. Ultimately, the essence of ministry lies in the heart's alignment with God’s will, as expressed in Colossians 3:23, where we are called to work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, ensuring that our service reflects His love and grace.
