Passover Fulfillment

1 sermons

The fulfillment of Passover is a profound theme woven throughout Scripture, culminating in the person and work of Jesus Christ. In Exodus 12, the original Passover is established as a divine ordinance, where the blood of the lamb protects the Israelites from judgment. This foreshadowing finds its ultimate expression in Christ, who is referred to as the Lamb of God in John 1:29, symbolizing the sacrificial atonement for sin. The Apostle Paul emphasizes this connection in 1 Corinthians 5:7, declaring that Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus fulfills the Passover by offering redemption not just to Israel, but to all humanity, as stated in John 3:16, where God’s love extends to the world. Furthermore, in Hebrews 9:12, we learn that Christ entered the Most Holy Place once for all, securing eternal redemption, thus rendering the old covenant obsolete. The celebration of Passover, therefore, transcends its historical roots, inviting believers to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice of Christ, who delivers us from spiritual death and bondage, fulfilling the promise of salvation and establishing a new covenant as foretold in Jeremiah 31:31. This rich theological tapestry invites us to appreciate the depth of God’s redemptive plan through the lens of Passover.
