Self-Justification

10 sermons

Self-justification is a biblical concept that refers to the human tendency to attempt to justify one's own actions, beliefs, or existence before God, often leading to a sense of self-righteousness and separation from God's true righteousness. According to Romans 10:3, the Israelites, for example, sought to establish their own righteousness, rather than submitting to God's standard. In contrast, the Bible teaches that true justification comes from God alone, as expressed in Romans 3:24, where it is written that we are justified by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ. As Psalms 51:17 reminds us, a broken and contrite heart, rather than self-justification, is what God desires, and it is through humility and recognition of our sin that we can receive God's justification and experience true spiritual transformation.
