Tithing And Giving

2 sermons

Tithing and giving are foundational principles in the life of a believer, deeply rooted in Scripture. The practice of tithing, as established in the Old Testament, is seen in passages such as Leviticus 27:30, where God commands His people to set aside a tenth of their produce for His purposes. This act of giving is not merely a financial transaction but a demonstration of faith and obedience, as highlighted in Malachi 3:10, where the Lord invites His followers to test Him in their generosity, promising blessings in return. In the New Testament, the perspective on giving shifts from a legalistic obligation to a heartfelt response to God's grace. Paul emphasizes this in 2 Corinthians 9:7, encouraging believers to give not reluctantly or under compulsion, but cheerfully, reflecting the generosity of Christ Himself. Jesus also teaches about the heart behind giving in Matthew 6:21, reminding us that where our treasure is, there our heart will be also. Ultimately, tithing and giving are expressions of our trust in God’s provision and a means of participating in His work on earth, as we seek to honor Him with our resources.
