Torah Distortion

1 sermons

Torah Distortion refers to the misinterpretation and manipulation of the teachings found within the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. Throughout Scripture, we see warnings against altering God's commandments. In Deuteronomy 4:2, it is stated, "You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it..." This principle underscores the importance of adhering faithfully to divine instruction. Jesus Himself confronted such distortions in His teachings, particularly when He addressed the Pharisees in Matthew 15:9, saying, "In vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men." This highlights the danger of human traditions overshadowing God's law. Furthermore, the Apostle Paul cautions against false teachings that can lead believers astray, as seen in Galatians 1:6-7, where he expresses astonishment that some are turning to a different gospel. The Talmud, while a significant text in Jewish tradition, has been critiqued for its potential to revise and reinterpret the original Torah teachings, leading to a form of revisionism that can obscure the true intent of God's law. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for believers seeking to uphold the integrity of Scripture, as emphasized in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, which affirms that all Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness.
