Typology

1 sermons

Typology is a profound theological concept that reveals how the Old Testament foreshadows and prefigures the New Testament realities, particularly in relation to Christ. It is through typology that we understand figures such as Adam, Moses, and the sacrificial system as shadows pointing toward the ultimate fulfillment in Jesus. For instance, Paul writes in Romans 5:14 that Adam is a type of the one who was to come, illustrating how the disobedience of one man led to sin, while the obedience of Christ brings righteousness. Similarly, the sacrificial offerings outlined in Leviticus serve as a typology of Christ's atoning work, as seen in Hebrews 10:1, which clarifies that the law is only a shadow of the good things to come. Jesus Himself embodies this typological fulfillment, as He declares in John 5:39 that the Scriptures testify about Him. The Passover lamb, as described in Exodus 12, is another significant type, symbolizing Christ, our Passover, who was sacrificed for us (1 Corinthians 5:7). Through understanding typology, believers gain deeper insights into God's redemptive plan, seeing how every detail in Scripture points to the person and work of Jesus Christ, enriching our faith and understanding of divine revelation.
