Following Jesus involves a deep commitment to learning from and obeying Him. As seen in John 8:31-32, true disciples continue in His word and know the truth that sets them free. The Gospels, such as Luke 9:23 and Luke 14:27, emphasize the importance of denying oneself and taking up one's cross daily to follow Him. In 1 John 2:3-6, the apostle John explains that those who claim to know Jesus will keep His commandments, demonstrating their love and devotion to Him. According to John 12:26, serving Jesus also means following Him to where He is, even to the point of sacrifice.

So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
By this we can be sure that we have come to know Him: if we keep His commandments. If anyone says, “I know Him,” but does not keep His commandments, he is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him: Whoever claims to abide in Him must walk as Jesus walked.
If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, My servant will be as well. If anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
Then Jesus said to all of them, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
“If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be My disciple.
In the same way, any one of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be My disciple.
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His footsteps:
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
You did not choose Me, but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will remain—so that whatever you ask the Father in My name, He will give you.
But someone will say, “You have faith and I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.
