In God's design, unity and oneness are fundamental to His nature and His plan for humanity. Through faith in Christ, believers become one with Him and with each other, as Galatians 3:26-28 teaches, for in Him there is no distinction between Jew and Gentile, slave and free. The oneness of God is also emphasized in Isaiah 44:6 and Mark 10:7-8, which reflects the unity of husband and wife as a picture of Christ's union with the church. Ultimately, Jesus' prayer for unity among His followers is rooted in the eternal oneness of the Father and the Son, as expressed in John 1:1 and mediated through the one God and one mediator, as 1 Timothy 2:5 affirms.
