14 Bible Verses on Deception

14 verses

Scripture warns against the dangers of deception, emphasizing the importance of honesty and integrity in one's walk with God. According to Proverbs, those who walk in integrity will be guided, while deceivers will be condemned, as seen in Proverbs 10:9 and 12:22. The Psalmist denounces the deceitful tongue, as in Psalms 52:2, and Paul urges believers to be transformed by renewing their minds, rather than conforming to the world's deceitful patterns, as in Romans 12:2. Ultimately, Galatians 6:7-8 reminds us that we will reap what we sow, making honesty and truthfulness essential in our relationships with God and others.

So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another.
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the faithless destroys them.
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Do not lie to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices,
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
He continued: “What comes out of a man, that is what defiles him. For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness.
