Scripture teaches that all sin separates us from God, yet some sins are considered more severe than others. In John 19:11, Jesus indicates that some sins are greater than others, implying a hierarchy of wrongdoing. The New Testament writers, such as the authors of 1 John and Hebrews, also acknowledge degrees of sin, warning against deliberate and willful transgressions, as in Hebrews 10:26. Similarly, Jesus' words in Matthew 5:22 and the apostle Paul's statement in Romans 6:23 underscore the seriousness of all sin, while also suggesting that some offenses are more grievous than others. The Bible ultimately calls believers to repentance and forgiveness, regardless of the severity of their sin.
