5 Bible Verses on False Teaching

5 verses

The Bible warns believers to be cautious of those who spread false doctrine, as they can lead people astray from the truth. In 1 John 4:1, the apostle John urges Christians to test the spirits to discern whether they are from God or not. The apostle Paul also warns of false apostles in 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, who disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Additionally, 2 John 1:7-11 and Romans 16:17 emphasize the importance of watching out for deceivers and avoiding those who cause divisions, highlighting the need for discernment and loyalty to the genuine gospel message.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.
For many deceivers have gone out into the world, refusing to confess the coming of Jesus Christ in the flesh. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch yourselves, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be fully rewarded. Anyone who runs ahead without remaining in the teaching of Christ does not have God. Whoever remains in His teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you but does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your home or even greet him. Whoever greets such a person shares in his evil deeds.
Now I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create divisions and obstacles that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Turn away from them.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you will know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and which is already in the world at this time.
