10 Bible Verses on Lilies

10 verses

In the natural world, lilies symbolize beauty and simplicity, reflecting the carefree nature of God's creation. According to Luke 12:27 and Matthew 6:28-30, Jesus teaches that even the lilies of the field are clothed by God, illustrating His provision and attention to detail. The prophet Hosea writes of Israel's future restoration, comparing it to the blossoming of the lily, as seen in Hosea 14:5. Meanwhile, the ornate lily-shaped designs in Solomon's temple, described in 1 Kings 7:26, demonstrate the flower's significance in biblical art and architecture, while Matthew 6:25-34 reminds us to trust in God's sovereignty over all creation.

Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns—and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles strive after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
It was a handbreadth thick, and its rim was fashioned like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It could hold two thousand baths.
I will be like the dew to Israel; he will blossom like the lily and take root like the cedars of Lebanon.
It was a handbreadth thick, and its rim was fashioned like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It could hold three thousand baths.
And the capitals atop the pillars in the portico were shaped like lilies, four cubits high.
He also made the Sea of cast metal. It was circular in shape, measuring ten cubits from rim to rim, five cubits in height, and thirty cubits in circumference. Below the rim, figures of oxen encircled it, ten per cubit all the way around the Sea, cast in two rows as a part of the Sea. The Sea stood on twelve oxen, three facing north, three facing west, three facing south, and three facing east. The Sea rested on them, with all their hindquarters toward the center. It was a handbreadth thick, and its rim was fashioned like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It could hold three thousand baths.
And the tops of the pillars were shaped like lilies. So the work of the pillars was completed.
And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin.
