14 Bible Verses on Loss of a Loved One

14 verses

In times of sorrow, the Bible offers comfort and reassurance to those grieving the loss of a loved one. Jesus teaches that those who mourn are blessed, for they will be comforted, as seen in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:4). The apostle Paul writes that God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). The psalmist reminds us that God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds (Psalms 147:3), and Paul encourages believers to look beyond present sufferings to the eternal glory that awaits them (Romans 8:18, 1 Thessalonians 4:14).

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.
For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.
Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, we also believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him. By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a loud command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will be the first to rise. After that, we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
‘He will wipe away every tear from their eyes,’ and there will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the former things have passed away.”
The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.
So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,
Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; I will surely help you; I will uphold you with My right hand of righteousness.
