13 Bible Verses on Magicians

13 verses

In the biblical account, those who practice magic and sorcery are often depicted as opposing God's will and purposes. The book of Leviticus warns against seeking guidance from mediums and spiritists, as seen in Leviticus 19:31 and Leviticus 20:27, which condemn such practices as detestable to the Lord. The prophet Daniel, in Daniel 2:27, distinguishes himself from the magicians and enchanters of the royal court, highlighting the superiority of God's wisdom. Meanwhile, in the New Testament, Acts 8:9-13 describes the encounter between the apostle Philip and Simon the magician, illustrating the contrast between magical arts and the power of the gospel. Revelation 22:15 ultimately excludes those who practice magic from the holy city, emphasizing the need for purity and faithfulness.

But when they believed Philip as he preached the gospel of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Even Simon himself believed and was baptized. When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, practices divination or conjury, interprets omens, practices sorcery, casts spells, consults a medium or spiritist, or inquires of the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD. And because of these detestable things, the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world. The world is passing away, along with its desires; but whoever does the will of God remains forever.
But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
