Scripture teaches that our past actions and experiences do not define our present or future in God's eyes. In Isaiah, the Lord commands us not to remember the former things or consider the things of old, for He is doing a new thing. Through faith in Christ, as expressed in 2 Corinthians, we become new creations, and our past is redeemed. However, as Jesus warns in Luke, looking back can hinder our spiritual progress, while confessing our sins, as encouraged in 1 John, allows us to experience God's forgiveness and move forward. This liberation from the past enables us to live freely in God's love.

“Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old. Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness and streams in the desert.
Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!
Then Jesus declared, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and then looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus.

Though You have shown me many troubles and misfortunes, You will revive me once again. Even from the depths of the earth You will bring me back up.
Behold, the former things have happened, and now I declare new things. Before they spring forth I proclaim them to you.”
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, outcry and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you. Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God announced long ago through His holy prophets.
