13 Bible Verses on Wake Up

13 verses

As believers, we are called to a state of spiritual alertness, recognizing the urgency of the times in which we live. The apostle Paul urges us to be aware of the present moment, knowing that our salvation is nearer than when we first believed, as expressed in Romans 13:11. Isaiah 60:1 and Ephesians 5:14 also emphasize the importance of rising from spiritual slumber, while 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6 encourages us to be children of the light, awake and alert. Additionally, Jesus' words in Revelation 3:2-3 serve as a warning to strengthen what remains and to be vigilant, lest we fall into complacency.

And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.
For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not sleep as the others do, but let us remain awake and sober.
Wake up and strengthen what remains, which was about to die; for I have found your deeds incomplete in the sight of My God. Remember, then, what you have received and heard. Keep it and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know the hour when I will come upon you.
So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
Do not love sleep, or you will grow poor; open your eyes, and you will have plenty of food.
Strengthen the limp hands and steady the feeble knees! Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance. With divine retribution He will come to save you.” Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer and the mute tongue will shout for joy. For waters will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.
Awake, awake! Rise up, O Jerusalem, you who have drunk from the hand of the LORD the cup of His fury; you who have drained the goblet to the dregs— the cup that makes men stagger.
‘Awake, awake, O Deborah! Awake, awake, sing a song! Arise, O Barak, and take hold of your captives, O son of Abinoam!’
Awake, my glory! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
Sober up as you ought, and stop sinning; for some of you are ignorant of God. I say this to your shame.
The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish but everyone to come to repentance.
Be indebted to no one, except to one another in love. For he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and any other commandments, are summed up in this one decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. And do this, understanding the occasion. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day has drawn near. So let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Instead, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.
