Exodus 36
BSA1 “So Bezalel [a skilled Israelite artisan], Oholiab [working with Bezalel], and every skilled [wise-hearted, with God-given wisdom] person are to carry out everything commanded by the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], who has given them skill [ability, expertise] and ability [wisdom, understanding] to know [to ascertain by seeing, to learn] how to perform [to make, to do] all the work [employment, occupation] of constructing [building, making] the sanctuary [the Holy Place, a sacred area].” word study 2 Then Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed] summoned Bezalel [in the shadow of God], Oholiab [Father’s tent], and every skilled [wise-hearted, gifted] person whom the LORD [Yehovah] had gifted—everyone whose heart [feelings, will, and intellect] stirred him [was moved by the impulse of his heart] to come and do the work [employment, occupation]. word study 3 They received from Moses [the leader, guide] all the contributions [offerings, gifts] that the Israelites [the descendants of Jacob] had brought to carry out the service [work, ministry] of constructing [building, making] the sanctuary [Holy Place, sacred dwelling]. Meanwhile, the people continued to bring [freely give, voluntarily offer] freewill offerings [gifts, sacrifices] morning after morning [every day, continually], word study 4 so that all [every single one] the skilled [wise, cunning] craftsmen [skilled workers, artisans] who were doing [performing, working on] all [every aspect of] the work [labor, task] on the sanctuary [Holy Place, sacred area] left [came away from, stopped] their work [task, occupation] word study 5 and said to Moses, “The people [are giving much more, bringing an abundance] are bringing more than enough [sufficient, ample] for doing the work [service, labor] the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of Israel] has commanded [given orders, instructed] us to do [perform, accomplish].” word study 6 After Moses [the Israelite leader] had given an order [to command], they sent a proclamation [a voice or sound, to cross over or transition from one thing to another] throughout the camp [a group of people, like the Israelites’ encampments in the wilderness]: “No man [a male person or individual] or woman [a female person, wife, or animal] should make [to do something, to create or bring into existence] anything else as an offering [a contribution or gift given to God, often as part of a sacrifice or tribute] for the sanctuary [a sacred or set-apart area, like the temple in Jerusalem].” So the people [a nation or group of people] were restrained [to hold something back or restrict it] from bringing [to go or come, to enter or approach] more [still, something that continues or happens again], word study 7 since what they already had was [more than sufficient, enough and more than enough] more than enough to perform [to make, do, or accomplish] all the work [labor, employment, or occupation]. word study 8 All the skilled [wise-hearted, cunning] craftsmen among the workmen made [constructed, built] the ten curtains for the tabernacle [a sacred tent, a dwelling place]. They were made of finely spun [twined, twisted] linen, as well as blue [violet, azure], purple [a deep rich color], and scarlet [crimson, deep red] yarn, with cherubim [angelic beings, heavenly guardians] skillfully [with cunning work, by design] worked into them. word study 9 Each curtain [twenty-eight cubits long, fourteen yards] was twenty-eight cubits long and four cubits [about two yards] wide; all the curtains [of the same size, one measure] were the same size [unified, one stature]. word study 10 And he joined [united, coupled together] five [a quantity of five, a set of five] of the curtains [hanging fabrics, drapes] together, and the other five [another set of five] he joined [connected, linked as one] as well [in the same manner, together]. word study 11 He made [to construct, fashion] loops [rings, hooks] of blue [violet, a specific dye] material on the edge [border, lip] of the end curtain [drape, hanging] in the first set [group, coupling], and also on the end curtain [outermost, last] in the second set [joining, seam]. word study 12 He made fifty [a specific quantity] loops on one [single, united] curtain and fifty loops on the end [edge, border] curtain of the second set, so that the loops [rings, hooks] lined up [facing each other] opposite one another. word study 13 He also made fifty [a specific quantity] gold [valuable, highly prized] clasps [hooks, fasteners] to join [unite, couple] the curtains [hangings, drapes] together, so that the tabernacle [a sacred dwelling place, the mishkan] was [existed as, came to be] a [single, unified] unit. word study 14 He then made [created, fashioned] curtains [hangings, drapes] of goat [she-goat, kid] hair for the tent [tabernacle, dwelling place] over the tabernacle [place of meeting, sacred tent]—eleven [one more than ten] curtains in all [eleven in total, a complete set]. word study 15 Each of the eleven [one more than ten] curtains was the same size—thirty cubits [a unit of measurement, about the length of a forearm] long and four [a simple counting number] cubits wide [breadth, physical size or space]. word study 16 He joined [united, coupled together] five of the curtains [hanging or trembling fabrics, drapes] into one set [alone, apart] and the other six [a separate group] into another [a distinct set]. word study 17 He made [created, brought into being] fifty [a specific quantity, a multitude] loops [rings, hooks] along the edge [border, margin] of the end curtain [the last drape, the outermost hanging] in the first set [the initial grouping, the primary arrangement], and fifty [a corresponding quantity] loops [fasteners, joinings] along the edge [lip, border] of the corresponding [matching, similar] curtain [drape, hanging] in the second set [grouping, arrangement]. word study 18 He also made fifty [fifty taches, fifty hooks] bronze [copper or something made of it] clasps [to couple, to join] to join [to unite, to charm] the tent [tabernacle, nomad’s home] together [as one, that it might be one] as a unit [one, united]. word study 19 Additionally, he made for the tent [tabernacle, sacred dwelling] a covering [protective layer, outer shield] of ram [strong, powerful animal] skins dyed red [made crimson, flushed], and over that [above, higher than] a covering [outer layer, protective hide] of fine [high-quality, superior] leather [animal hide, skin]. word study 20 Next, he constructed [made, built, or formed] upright frames [boards, or planks] of acacia wood [shittim wood, a strong and durable tree] for the tabernacle [a special tent, or place of worship]. word study 21 Each frame [a flat piece of wood, like a board or plank] was ten cubits [the length of a forearm, a unit of measurement] long and a cubit [a standard unit of length] and a half [a portion, a part] wide [broad, having a large extent]. word study 22 Two [a pair] tenons [hands or projections] were connected [mshulabot, fitted together] to each other for each frame [board or plank] [thus forming a joint]. He made [constructed or built] all [everything] the frames [boards] of the tabernacle [the dwelling place of God] in this way [thus or so]. word study 23 He constructed [made, built, fashioned] twenty [a multitude, numerous] frames [boards, planks, flat pieces of wood] for the south [Negeb, southern district] side [edge, corner, region] of the tabernacle [dwelling place, sacred tent, place of worship], word study 24 with forty [twenty times two, a multitude] silver [precious, valuable] bases [sockets, foundations] to put under [beneath, supporting] the twenty [a complete set, a full number] frames [boards, planks]—two [a pair, a dual] bases [sockets, pedestals] for each frame [board, plank], one [a single, solitary] under [beneath, below] each tenon [handle, projection]. word study 25 For the [other, second] second side [a rib or part] of the tabernacle [a special tent where God met with the Israelites], the north [toward the north corner] side [the edge or corner], he made [to construct, build] twenty [a multiple of ten, a complete set] frames [boards, flat pieces of wood] word study 26 and forty [four decades, a significant period] silver [precious, highly valued] bases [sockets, foundations]—two [a pair, dual] bases [sockets, pedestals] under [beneath, supporting] each [every single] frame [board, plank]. word study 27 He made [created, constructed] six frames [boards, planks] for the rear [back, hinder part] of the tabernacle [a portable place of worship, the dwelling place of God], the west [toward the sea] side [flank, area], word study 28 and two [a pair, dual] frames [boards, flat pieces of wood] for the two [a pair, dual] back [rear, hinder] corners [angles, sides] of the tabernacle [a special tent, dwelling place], word study 29 coupled [joined together, double] together from bottom [beneath, underneath] to top and fitted [united, made secure] into a single [one, united] ring [a ring or signet]. He made [constructed, formed] both corners [angles, junctions] in this way [thus, in the same manner]. word study 30 So there were eight [a special number] frames [boards, planks] and sixteen [six and ten] silver [precious metal] bases [sockets, pedestals]—two [a pair, dual] under [beneath, underneath] each frame [board, plank]. word study 31 He also made [crafted with skill] five [a specific quantity] crossbars [bars or bolts, often made of wood] of acacia wood [shittim wood, known for its thorns and durability] for the frames [boards or planks, like a flat piece of wood] on one [united, single] side [a part or portion, like a rib] of the tabernacle [a special tent where God met with the Israelites, a portable place of worship], word study 32 five [a quantity of five, denoting completeness] for those on the other [second] side [flank, or rib of the structure], and five for those on the rear [hinder, or back] side [rib, or flank] of the tabernacle [a portable place of worship], to the west [the direction of the sea]. word study 33 He made [created, fashioned] the central [middle, main] crossbar [bar, beam] to run [pass, extend] through the center [midst, middle] of the frames [boards, planks], from [starting at] one end [edge, border] to the other [opposite end, extremity]. word study 34 And he overlaid [covered with a layer of] the frames [boards, planks] with gold [a valuable, yellow metal] and made [crafted, fashioned] gold [precious, brilliant] rings [circular bands, signets] to hold [support, fasten] the crossbars [bars, bolts]. He also overlaid [plated, coated] the crossbars [bars, rods] with gold [gold; something yellow or brilliant]. word study 35 Next, he made the veil [a curtain or screen] of blue [describing the color obtained from a specific type of mussel], purple [the color or dyed fabric], and scarlet [a deep red color, associated with luxury] yarn, and finely spun linen [fine white linen, often used for luxurious clothing], with cherubim [angelic beings, guarding important places] skillfully [with cleverness and expertise] worked into it. word study 36 He also made four [exactly, a specific quantity] posts of acacia wood [shittim, a thorny tree] for it and overlaid them with gold [a valuable metal], along with gold [precious, highly valued] hooks; and he cast four [a complete set, a quartet] silver [silver; money, a price] bases [sockets, a foundation] for the posts. word study 37 For the entrance [doorway, gateway] to the tent [tabernacle, dwelling place], he made a curtain [hanging, screen] embroidered [with needlework, intricately woven] with blue [violet], purple [royal], and scarlet [shani, crimson] yarn, and finely spun [twined, twisted] linen [white, fine fabric], word study 38 together with five posts [pillars, columns] and their hooks [pegs or nails]. He overlaid [to cover, lay over] the tops of the posts and their bands [rings, connecting rods] with gold [a valuable, yellow metal], and their five [a complete set] bases [sockets, foundations] were bronze [copper, a base metal]. word study
