Job 5
BSA1 “Call [now, if you please] out if you please [as a polite request], but who [which one, anyone] will answer [respond, give an answer]? To which [toward, in the direction of] of the holy ones [saints, set apart ones, angels] will you turn [face, direct your attention]? word study 2 For [because of this reason] resentment [vexation, anger] kills [slays, puts to death] a fool [foolish man, one who despises wisdom], and envy [jealousy, strong passion] slays [destroys, brings to an end] the simple [silly one, easily deceived]. word study 3 I [the speaker] have seen [observed, looked upon] a fool [one who despises wisdom] taking root [growing strong, becoming established], but suddenly [in an instant] his house [his dwelling or habitation] was cursed [spoken against, brought under a divine judgment]. word study 4 His sons [children, descendants, offspring] are far [completely, utterly] from safety [salvation, deliverance, rescue], crushed [bruised, destroyed, oppressed] in court [the gate, a place of judgment] without [lacking, having no] a defender [rescuer, deliverer, one to save]. word study 5 The hungry [those who are starving, in need of food] consume his harvest [the crop, the fruit of his labor], taking it even from the thorns [prickly plants], and the thirsty [those who are parched, in need of spiritual refreshment] pant after his wealth [his riches, his substance, all that he has]. word study 6 For distress [evil, trouble, sorrow] does not spring [come out, arise] from the dust [dry earth, clay], and trouble [affliction, hard work, worry] does not sprout [grow, spring up] from the ground [land, earth, soil]. word study 7 Yet man [the human being, Adam] is born [to beget, brought into existence] to trouble [hard work, misery] as surely [certainly, without a doubt] as sparks [flashes of fire] fly [to fly] upward [loftily, to exult]. word study 8 However [But, on the contrary], if I were you, I would appeal [seek, inquire of] to God [Elohim, the supreme Creator] and lay [place, set] my cause [reason, lawsuit, or case] before Him [in His presence, to His attention]— word study 9 the One [doing great works] who does [to make, create, or bring about] great [large, mighty, or powerful] and unsearchable [mysterious, beyond human understanding] things, wonders [marvelous, astonishing, or miraculous events] without [beyond all] number [count or reckoning]. word study 10 He gives [to bestow or provide] rain [water from the sky] to the earth [land, ground] and sends [to cause to go or depart] water [liquid refreshment] upon [on or above] the fields [outdoors, cultivated land]. word study 11 He sets [exalts, lifts up] the lowly [humble, oppressed] on high [to a place of honor, elevated], so that mourners [those who are sad, in sorrow] are lifted [exalted, rescued] to safety [salvation, deliverance]. word study 12 He thwarts [frustrates, makes void] the schemes [devices, plans] of the crafty [prudent, cunning], so that their hands [strength, ability] find [are able to accomplish] no success [cannot perform their enterprise, achieve nothing]. word study 13 He catches [takes, traps] the wise [intelligent, skilled, cunning] in their craftiness [cleverness, deceit, subtlety], and sweeps away [carries headlong, cuts off suddenly] the plans [counsel, advice, purposes] of the cunning [twisted, wicked, froward] [those who use clever thinking to achieve their goals]. word study 14 They encounter [meet with, come into contact with] darkness [spiritual or physical gloom, misery] by day [in the daytime, daily] and grope [feel, search blindly] at noon [midday, when the sun is highest] as in the night [a time of adversity, hardship, or uncertainty]. word study 15 He saves [rescues, delivers] the needy [poor, oppressed, those in need of help] from the sword [cutting instrument, knife] in their mouth [lip, edge of something] and from the clutches [hand, power] of the powerful [strong, mighty, severe]. word study 16 So the poor [needy, weak, or helpless] have hope [expectancy, a cord that attaches to a future promise], and injustice [moral evil, wickedness, or unrighteousness] shuts [stops, gathers, or draws in] its mouth [lips, or the voice of the unrighteous]. word study 17 Blessed [happy, fortunate] indeed is the man [human, mortal] whom God [Eloah, the one true God] corrects [rebukes, disciplines]; so do not [refuse not] despise [reject, spurn] the discipline [chastening, correction] of the Almighty [Shadday, all-powerful]. word study 18 For He [causes pain, wounds] wounds, but He also binds [ties firmly]; He [strikes, smites] strikes, but His [powerful, directing] hands also heal [mend, make whole]. word study 19 He will rescue [deliver, save] you from six [many] calamities [troubles, distresses]; no [not any] harm [evil, bad] will touch [strike, reach] you in seven [a multitude of times]. word study 20 In [times of, during] famine [need of food, hunger] He will [rescue, ransom] redeem [pay a price to set free, save] you from [the power of, natural or violent] death [separation from God, eternal punishment], and in [times of, state of] battle [war, conflict] from the [power of the] stroke [cutting blow, slash] of the sword [cutting instrument, weapon of war]. word study 21 You will be hidden [protected, kept safe] from the scourge [whip, lash] of the tongue [lash of words, slander], and will not fear [be afraid, dread] havoc [destruction, violence] when it comes [approaches, arrives]. word study 22 You will laugh [mock, scoff] at destruction [violence, social sin] and famine [severe hunger, dearth], and need not fear [be afraid of, revere] the beasts [wild animals, living creatures] of the earth [land, ground]. word study 23 For [because of this reason] you will have a covenant [agreement, promise] with the stones [rocks, weights] of the field [land, earth], and the wild animals [beasts, creatures] will be at peace [in harmony, safe] with you [in league, at rest]. word study 24 You will know [be certain, ascertain by seeing] that your tent [tabernacle, dwelling place] is secure [in peace, at rest], and find [miss, lack] nothing amiss [out of order, wrong] when inspecting [visiting, overseeing] your home [habitation, pasture]. word study 25 You will know [be certain, perceive] that your offspring [seed, descendants] will be many [numerous, great], your descendants [posterity, children] like the grass [vegetation, herb] of the earth [land, ground]. word study 26 You will come [to a ripe old age, in full strength] to the grave [sepulchre, burial site] in full vigor [full strength, prime of life], like a sheaf [stack, shock] of grain [wheat, corn] gathered [harvested, brought in] in season [due time, its own time]. word study 27 Indeed [truly, in fact], we have investigated [searched it out, examined carefully], and it is true [right, confirmed]! So hear [listen, pay attention to] it and know [understand, ascertain by seeing] for yourself [personally, for your own good].” word study
