1 “If one’s offering [a sacrifice of peace, a gift to maintain fellowship] is a peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks, a way to express gratitude] and he offers an animal [a male or female] from the herd [domesticated cattle or oxen], whether male [having the characteristics of a man or male animal] or female [a woman, girl, or female animal], he must present [to approach or come near, with a sense of purpose] it without blemish [unblemished, perfect, without defects] before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God, the supreme Creator]. word study 2 He is to lay his hand [an open hand; strength, a side or share] on the head [the topmost part of the body] of the offering [a sacrifice brought near to the altar] and slaughter [to kill as a sacrifice] it at the entrance [a doorway or gate] to the Tent [ohel, a nomad’s home or the tabernacle] of Meeting [a sacred season or festival]. Then Aaron’s sons the priests [spiritual leaders] shall sprinkle [to scatter or pour] the blood [the liquid essential for life] on all sides [surrounding or encompassing] of the altar [a place of sacrifice]. word study 3 From the peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice of thanksgiving] he is to bring an offering made by fire [a food offering, a sacrifice to be burned] to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]: the fat [the richest or best part] that covers [to envelop, hide from view] the entrails [the inner parts, the midst], all the fat [the choicest portion] that is on [upon, above] them [the inner parts, the entrails], word study 4 both kidneys [the two, a pair] with the fat [the richest part] on them near the loins [the confidence, hope, or foolishness area], and the lobe [the flap] of the liver [the heaviest organ], which he is to remove [to turn aside] with the kidneys. word study 5 Then Aaron’s sons [as priests, descendants of Aaron] are to burn [offer, make a perfume] it on the altar [a place of sacrifice] atop the burnt offering [a step, stairs to the altar] that is on the burning wood [trees, wooden planks], as an offering [a sacrifice, a gift] made by fire, a pleasing aroma [a sweet fragrance, soothing] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. word study 6 If, however, one’s peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is from the flock [a group of sheep or goats], he must present a male [referring to men or male animals] or female [a woman, girl, or female animal] without blemish [unblemished, perfect, having no defects]. word study 7 If [under the condition, whether] he is presenting [offering, bringing near] a lamb [young sheep] for his offering [sacrifice, oblation], he must present [approach, come near] it before [in the presence of, face to face with] the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God]. word study 8 He is to lay [place, rest] his hand [an open hand; strength, a side or share] on the head [the topmost part of the body] of his offering [sacrifice, gift to God] and slaughter [kill, sacrifice] it in front of [before, in the presence of] the Tent [tabernacle, dwelling place] of Meeting [assembly, gathering place]. Then Aaron’s [the first high priest] sons shall sprinkle [scatter, pour out] its blood [life, atonement] on all sides [around, surrounding] of the altar [place of sacrifice, worship]. word study 9 And from the peace offering [a voluntary sacrifice to show thanks] he shall bring an offering made by fire [a food offering, a sacrifice given to God] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] consisting of its fat [the richest or best part]: the entire fat tail [the whole rump] cut off close [near, in proximity] to the backbone [the spine, giving firmness to the body], the fat that covers [to hide or conceal] the entrails [the inner part or midst], all [everything, without exception] the fat that is on them [upon the inner parts], word study 10 both kidneys [the two, a pair] with the fat [richest or best part] on them near the loins [confidence, hope, or foolishness, by the flanks], and the lobe [caudate lobe, flap] of the liver [heaviest organ], which he is to remove [turn aside, depart from] with the kidneys [essential organs]. word study 11 Then the priest [the one who serves God, a spiritual leader] is to burn [to offer, to make a perfume] them on the altar [a place of sacrifice, for worship] as food [nourishment, bread], an offering [a gift, a sacrifice] made by fire to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]. word study 12 If one’s offering [a gift, sacrifice, or oblation] is a goat [she-goat, kid], he is to present [bring near, approach] it before [in the presence of, face to face with] the LORD [Yehovah, the divine name of God]. word study 13 He must lay his hand [with authority and strength] on its head [the topmost part of the body] and slaughter [kill as a sacrifice] it in front of [before the presence of] the Tent [tabernacle, a place of worship] of Meeting [assembly, a gathering place]. Then Aaron’s sons [the priestly descendants] shall sprinkle [scatter, pour out] its blood [the liquid essential for life] on all sides [around, surrounding] of the altar [a place of sacrifice]. word study 14 And from his offering [a portion of the sacrifice] he shall present [bring near, approach] an offering made by fire [a burnt offering, a sacrifice] to the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God]: the fat [the richest part] that covers [to cover, hide from view] the entrails [the inner parts, midst], all [everything, the whole] the fat [the best, choicest part] that is on [upon, above] them [the inner parts, entrails], word study 15 both kidneys [the two, a pair] with the fat [the richest part, choicest] on them near the loins [the confidence, hope], and the lobe [the caul, the flap] of the liver [the heaviest organ], which he is to remove [to turn aside, take away] with the kidneys [the essential organs]. word study 16 Then the priest [the spiritual leader, mediator] is to burn [to offer, to make a perfume] the food [bread or grain] on the altar [the place of sacrifice, the mizbeach] as an offering [a gift, a sacrifice] made by fire, a pleasing [soothing, a sweet] aroma [fragrance, a sweet smell]. All [everything, the entirety] the fat [the richest part, the best] is the LORD’s [Yehovah, the supreme God, the covenant maker]. word study 17 This is a permanent [lasting, perpetual] statute [ordinance, divine law] for the generations [descendants, people] to come, wherever you live: You must not eat any [kind of] fat [richest part, choicest portion] or any [kind of] blood [the liquid that flows through the body].” word study
