1 Then the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, communicate, or command] to Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed], word study 2 “Command [to give orders, to appoint] the Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] and say to them: See that you present [to bring near, to offer] to Me at its appointed time [in the due season, at the designated meeting] the food [bread, grain offerings] for My offerings [sacrifices, oblations] by fire [as a burnt offering], as a pleasing aroma [a sweet savor, a soothing fragrance] to Me. word study 3 And tell them that this [the specified, divinely appointed] is the offering made by fire [a sacrifice, an act of worship] you are to present [bring near, offer] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] as a regular [daily, continual] burnt offering [a step, an ascent to the altar] each day: two [a pair] unblemished [perfect, without defect] year-old male lambs [young rams]. word study 4 Offer one [the first, single] lamb [a young ram] in the morning [at dawn, the break of day] and the other [second] at twilight [in the evening, between the evenings], word study 5 along with a tenth [one part out of ten] of an ephah [a unit of measurement, about 9 gallons] of fine flour [pure, refined meal] as a grain offering [gift, sacrifice], mixed [blended, combined] with a quarter [fourth part] hin [about 5 quarts, a liquid measure] of oil [olive oil] from pressed [beaten, pounded] olives. word study 6 This is a regular [continual, daily] burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar] established at Mount [a hill] Sinai [where Moses received the Law from God] as a pleasing [soothing, sweet] aroma [a pleasant fragrance], an offering [a sacrifice, a gift] made by fire to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. word study 7 The drink offering [libation, strong wine] accompanying each lamb [young ram, sacrificial animal] shall be a quarter [fourth part, one-fourth] hin [ancient unit of liquid measure, about 5 quarts]. Pour out [drain, cause to flow] the offering of fermented drink [strong drink, intoxicating liquor] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] in the sanctuary area [holy place, set-apart space]. word study 8 And offer the second [latter, another] lamb at twilight [evening, between the evenings], with the same grain offering [meal offering, gift of fine flour] and drink offering [libation, ceremonial wine] as in the morning [dawn, break of day]. It is an offering made by fire [a burnt offering, a sacrifice], a pleasing [soothing, sweet] aroma to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God]. word study 9 On the Sabbath day [day of rest, from the Hebrew’yom ha-shabbat’], present two unblemished [perfect, without defect] year-old male lambs [young rams, sons of a year], accompanied by a grain offering [gift of fine flour, a meal offering] of two-tenths [a tenth part, a tithe] of an ephah of fine flour [best flour, finely-ground wheat] mixed with oil [olive oil], as well as a drink offering [a liquid poured out, a ceremonial sacrifice]. word study 10 This is the burnt offering [a step or stairs to the altar] for every Sabbath [day of rest and worship], in addition to the regular [continual, constant] burnt offering and its drink offering [a liquid poured out as a sacrifice]. word study 11 At the beginning [of every new moon, at the start] of every month [lunar cycle, renewal], you are to present [offer, bring near] to the LORD [Yehovah, the eternal God] a burnt offering [sacrifice, ascent to the altar] of two young bulls [oxen, cattle], one ram [strong male sheep], and seven male lambs [young rams, perfect ones] a year old [in their first year, without age], all unblemished [perfect, without defect, spotless], word study 12 along with three-tenths [one-third of a standard unit] of an ephah of fine flour [the best, purified meal] mixed with oil [olive oil] as a grain offering [a gift, a sacrifice] with each bull [young ox, a strong animal], two-tenths [one-fifth of a standard unit] of an ephah of fine flour [the best, purified meal] mixed with oil [olive oil] as a grain offering [a gift, a sacrifice] with the ram [a strong male sheep], word study 13 and a tenth [one tenth part, a tithe] of an ephah of fine flour [wheat flour used for offerings] mixed with oil [olive oil] as a grain offering [a gift or donation] with each lamb [a young ram]. This is a burnt offering [a step or stairs to the altar], a pleasing aroma [a sweet fragrance], an offering made by fire [a food offering] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. word study 14 Their drink offerings [libations, poured out to God] shall be half [one half, a portion] a hin [an ancient unit of liquid measure, about 5 quarts or 6 liters] of wine [fermented wine] with each bull [a young ox, a sacrifice], a third [one third, a fraction] of a hin with the ram [a strong male sheep], and a quarter [one fourth, a portion] hin with each lamb [a young ram, a sacrifice]. This [the specified offerings] is the monthly [every month, a regular cycle] burnt offering [a step or stairs to the altar, a sacrifice] to be made at each new moon [the beginning of the lunar cycle] throughout the year [a period of time, a cycle of seasons]. word study 15 In addition to the regular [continual, daily] burnt offering [step or stairs to the altar] with its drink offering [liquid poured out as a sacrifice], one male [hairy, wild] goat [or kid, she-goat] is to be presented to the LORD [Yehovah, God] as a sin [guilt, punishment for sin] offering [sacrifice or purification for atonement]. word study 16 The [in the middle of the month] fourteenth day [a 24-hour period or a figurative space of time] of the first [primary, initial] month [new moon and lunar cycle] is the LORD’s [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] Passover [the Jewish festival or the animal sacrificed during it, a time of remembrance and liberation]. word study 17 On the fifteenth day of this [present, current] month, there shall be a feast [festival, celebration]; for seven days unleavened bread [a sweet bread made without yeast] is to be eaten [devoured, consumed]. word study 18 On the first [primary] day there is to be a [holy, sacred] sacred assembly [convocation, public gathering]; you must not do any regular [servile] work [employment, occupation]. word study 19 Present [offer, bring near] to the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] an offering [sacrifice, gift] made by fire [a burnt sacrifice], a burnt offering [holocaust, completely consumed] of two [a pair, dual] young bulls [bullocks, oxen], one [a single, unique] ram [a strong male sheep], and seven male lambs [young rams, sons of a year] a year old [of the first year, in their first year], all [completely, entirely] unblemished [perfect, without defect, flawless]. word study 20 The grain offering [fine flour mixed with oil, a gift to God] shall consist of fine flour [the best meal] mixed with oil [olive oil, ointment]; offer three-tenths [a tithe, 10% of an ephah] of an ephah with each bull [a young ox, a sacrifice], two-tenths [a smaller portion] of an ephah with the ram [a strong male sheep], word study 21 and a [separate, tenth part] tenth of an ephah [about two quarts or liters] with each [one, individual] of the seven lambs [young rams, sacrificial animals]. word study 22 Include one [single, unique] male goat [hairy, a wild goat or satyr] as a sin [guilt, punishment for sin] offering [sacrifice, purification] to make atonement [to cover, coat] for you [upon, on your behalf]. word study 23 You are to present [in addition to, beside] these [offerings, sacrifices] in addition to the regular [daily, continual] morning [at the break of day, dawn] burnt offering [a step or stairs to the altar, a gift totally consumed by fire]. word study 24 Offer the same [daily, throughout the seven days] food [grain or bread, a symbol of sacrifice] each day for [a period of] seven days as an offering made by fire [a burnt offering, a sweet fragrance], a pleasing [soothing] aroma to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. It is to be offered with its [accompanying, ceremonial] drink offering and the regular [continual] burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar]. word study 25 On the seventh [final] day you shall hold a [holy, sacred] sacred assembly [convocation, public gathering]; you must not do any regular [servile] work [employment, labor]. word study 26 On the day [of new beginnings, from the Hebrew’yom’] of firstfruits [the first produce of the harvest], when you present [or bring near] an offering [a gift] of new [fresh] grain to the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] during the Feast of Weeks [a celebration of seven weeks], you are to hold a sacred [holy, set-apart] assembly [a public gathering]; you must not do any regular [or servile,‘avodah’] work [labor]. word study 27 Present a burnt offering [for a sweet savor, as a pleasing aroma] of two young bulls [oxen, male cattle], one ram [a strong male sheep], and seven male lambs [he-lambs, young rams] a year old [of the first year, one-year-old] as a pleasing aroma [a sweet fragrance, soothing] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], word study 28 together with their grain offerings [meal offerings, sacrifices of fine flour] of fine flour [choice wheat flour] mixed with oil [olive oil, anointing oil]—three-tenths [one-third of an ephah] of an ephah with each bull [young ox], two-tenths [one-fifth of an ephah] of an ephah with the ram [male sheep], word study 29 and a [separate, tenth part] tenth of an ephah [a unit of dry measure, about 0.2 bushels] with each of the [young ram or] seven lambs [old enough to butt or fight]. word study 30 Include one [single, unique] male [hairy] goat [he-goat, kid of the goats] to make [to cover, atone for] atonement [expiation, forgiveness] for you [upon, on your behalf]. word study 31 Offer them [with their libations, as a ceremonial drink] with their drink offerings [poured out as a sacrifice] in addition to the regular [continual, daily] burnt offering [a step or stairs to the altar] and its grain offering [a gift or donation].
