Proverbs 10
BSA1 The proverbs [wise sayings, teachings] of Solomon [a king of Israel]: A wise [intelligent, skilled] son brings joy [rejoice, gladness] to his father [parent, ancestor], but a foolish [stupid, silly] son grief [heaviness, sorrow] to his mother [female parent, nurturer]. word study 2 Ill-gotten [gained through wickedness, unrighteous] treasures [wealth, riches] profit [bring benefit, gain] nothing [no value, empty], but righteousness [virtue, moral integrity] brings [delivers, rescues] deliverance [salvation, liberation] from death [mortal separation, eternal destruction]. word study 3 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] does not [lo, indicating absence or negation] let the righteous [just, morally upright] go hungry [be in need of food, famish], but He denies [thrusts away, rejects] the craving [desire, strong longing] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin]. word study 4 Idle [lazy, slothful] hands [the palm] make one poor [destitute, lacking material possessions], but diligent [industrious, hard-working] hands [the hand of the diligent, bringing strength] bring [to enrich, make rich] wealth [riches, financial prosperity]. word study 5 He who gathers [collects, harvests] in summer [the harvest season, the fruit of that season] is a wise [prudent, thoughtful] son [a son or descendant], but he who sleeps [is in a deep sleep, is unconscious] during harvest [the time of harvest, the reaper or the crop itself] is a disgraceful son [a son or descendant]. word study 6 Blessings [from God, divine gifts] are on the head [the topmost part of the body] of the righteous [just, morally upright], but the mouth [lip, edge] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] conceals [covers, hides] violence [cruelty, injustice]. word study 7 The memory [remembrance, memorial] of the righteous [just, upright] is a blessing [gift from God, prosperity], but the name [identity, honor] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] will rot [decay, fall apart]. word study 8 A [prudent, wise in heart] wise heart will receive [accept, heed] commandments [laws, precepts], but [prating, foolish in talk] foolish lips [words, language] will come to [fall into, be overthrown by] ruin [disaster, downfall]. word study 9 He who walks [in a morally upright manner, with integrity] in integrity [completeness, moral purity] walks [lives, conducts himself] securely [with confidence, in safety], but he who perverts [twists, distorts] his ways [path, manner of life] will be found out [known, revealed, made manifest]. word study 10 He who winks [with sly intent, signalizing deceit] the eye [the source of insight, a window to the soul] causes [to bring about, gives rise to] grief [injury, sorrow, or pain], and foolish [despising wisdom, lacking discernment] lips [the edge of speech, language] will come to [fall into, be overthrown by] ruin [destruction, downfall, or calamity]. word study 11 The mouth [lip, edge of something] of the righteous [just, morally upright] is a fountain [spring, source of life] of life [physical and spiritual existence], but the mouth of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin] conceals [covers, hides from view] violence [cruelty, injustice]. word study 12 Hatred [intense dislike, animosity] stirs up [rousing, awakening] dissension [strife, contention, quarrels], but love [unconditional affection, agape] covers [to hide, forgive] all [every, everything] transgressions [rebellion, sin, wrongdoing]. word study 13 Wisdom [prudence, good judgment] is found [discovered, attained] on the lips [language, words] of the discerning [those who understand, have insight], but a rod [staff] is for the back [midst, central part] of him who lacks [is void of, without] judgment [understanding, sense]. word study 14 The wise [cunning, prudent leaders] store up [treasure, lay up] knowledge [understanding, wisdom], but the mouth [lips, edge] of the fool [foolish, despising wisdom] invites [is near, a prelude to] destruction [terror, ruin]. word study 15 The wealth [substance, riches] of the rich [noble, wealthy] man is his fortified [strong, protected] city [town, stronghold], but poverty [need, lack] is the ruin [destruction, terror] of the poor [needy, weak]. word study 16 The labor [wage, reward] of the righteous [just, morally upright] leads to life [eternal, spiritual], but the gain [produce, income] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty] brings punishment [sin, guilt]. word study 17 Whoever heeds [pays attention to, regards] instruction [discipline, correction] is on the path [way, journey] to life [being alive, spiritual life], but he who ignores [refuses, forsakes] reproof [rebuke, correction] goes astray [errs, wanders morally]. word study 18 The one who [hides] conceals hatred [towards someone or something, having hatred] has [deceptive] lying lips [language, words], and whoever [utters] spreads slander [evil reports, false accusations] is a [stupid, foolish] fool [one who rejects God, lacking wisdom]. word study 19 When words [many spoken things, an abundance of speech] are many [in multitude, numerous], sin [transgression, rebellion] is unavoidable [will not cease, cannot be stopped], but he who restrains [withholds, spares] his lips [language, the edge of the tongue] is wise [prudent, circumspect, having good judgment]. word study 20 The tongue [language, speech] of the righteous [just, upright] is choice [refined, pure] silver [wealth, treasure], but the heart [mind, will] of the wicked [morally wrong, evil] has little [small amount, insignificant] worth [value, importance]. word study 21 The lips [language, words] of the righteous [just, upright] feed [care for, tend to] many [a large number, numerous], but fools [foolish, lacking sense] die [perish, come to an end] for lack [want, need] of judgment [wisdom, understanding, heart]. word study 22 The blessing [gift from God, bringing prosperity] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] enriches [to make rich, prosper], and He adds [increases, continues] no [absence of] sorrow [toil, painful labor] to it [with it, together]. word study 23 The fool [stupid person, one who rejects God] delights in [finds pleasure, has fun] shameful conduct [mischief, wickedness, evil plans], but a man [male person, individual] of understanding [intelligence, insight, discretion] has [possesses, enjoys] wisdom [skill, prudence, good judgment]. word study 24 What the [morally wrong, guilty of sin] wicked [unrighteous] man dreads [fears, is afraid of] will overtake [come upon, meet] him, but the desire [longing, aspiration] of the [just] righteous [made right with God] will be granted [given, provided]. word study 25 When the whirlwind [a hurricane or storm, Suphah] passes, the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin] are no more, but the righteous [just, made right with God] are secure [safe, firmly established] forever [for all eternity, always]. word study 26 Like vinegar [a sour liquid] to the teeth and smoke [obscuring vision, causing distress] to the eyes [the windows of the soul], so is the slacker [a sluggard, habitually lazy] to those who send [commission, entrust] him. word study 27 The fear [reverence, respect] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] prolongs [adds to, increases] life, but the years [periods of time, seasons] of the wicked [morally wrong, sinful] will be cut short [harvested, reaped]. word study 28 The hope [trust and confidence, expectation] of the righteous [just, morally upright] is joy [gladness, happiness], but the expectations [waiting, anticipation] of the wicked [morally wrong, sinful] will perish [be destroyed, come to an end]. word study 29 The way [path, journey, or manner of life] of the LORD [Yehovah] is a refuge [stronghold, security, or place of safety] to the upright [those who have integrity, are morally pure], but destruction [terror, ruin, or consternation] awaits those who do [habitually work or practice] evil [wickedness, iniquity, or trouble]. word study 30 The righteous [just, upright, having God’s nature] will never [to the age, forever] be shaken [to waver, made unstable], but the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin] will not [absent, non-existent] inhabit [dwell, live in] the land [earth, territory, region]. word study 31 The mouth [lip, edge of something] of the righteous [just, having God’s nature] brings forth [to bear fruit, produce] wisdom [skill, prudence, good judgment], but a perverse [stubborn, disobedient] tongue [language, speech] will be cut out [destroyed, removed, severed]. word study 32 The lips [of language, the edge of speech] of the righteous [just, made right with God] know [perceive, learn, ascertain] what is fitting [acceptable, pleasing], but the mouth [lip, the voice] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin] is perverse [stubborn, disobedient, speaking frowardness]. word study
