Psalms 124

1 If the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God] had not been [present, helping] on our side [to support and deliver us]— let Israel [God’s chosen people] now declare [say, proclaim, confess]— word study 2 if the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] had not been [existed, present] on our side [upon us, in our favor] when men [the man, Adam, humanity] attacked [rose up against, came up] us, word study 3 when their anger [wrath, fierce emotion] flared [was kindled, burned intensely] against us, then they would have swallowed [consumed, destroyed completely] us alive [while still living, in the heat of their wrath], word study 4 then the floods [like a rushing torrent, overwhelming waters] would have engulfed [swept over, submerged] us, then the torrent [stream, waters] would have overwhelmed [gone over, overflowed] us, word study 5 then the [proud] raging waters [of pride, turbulent] would have [gone over] swept us away [like a flood, drowning our soul]. word study 6 Blessed [praised, worshiped] be the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], who has not [absent, withheld] given [delivered, entrusted] us as prey [food, something torn apart] to their teeth [sharp edges]. word study 7 We [as living beings, our soul] have escaped [been delivered, slipped away] like a bird [a little bird, a sparrow] from the snare [a net, a trap] of the fowler [a hunter, one who sets snares]; the net [the snare, a thin flat piece of metal] is torn [broken, shattered], and we [emphatically, as a community] have slipped away [escaped, been freed]. word study 8 Our help [Yahweh, our Helper and Savior] is in the name [character and reputation] of the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God], the Maker [Creator, One who brings into being] of heaven [the visible universe and spiritual realm] and earth [the land, the physical world]. word study
