1 In You, O LORD [the Eternal, Divine Ruler], I have taken refuge [put my trust, found shelter]; let me never be put to shame [ashamed, humiliated, disgraced]; save me [deliver, rescue] by Your righteousness [justice, moral integrity, faithfulness]. word study 2 Incline [bow down, lean towards] Your ear [hastily, with urgency] to me; come quickly [speedily, without delay] to my rescue [deliverance, salvation]. Be my rock [strong rock, huge rock] of refuge [protection, safety], the stronghold [house of defense, fort] of my deliverance [salvation, rescue]. word study 3 For You are my rock [strong tower, fortress] and my fortress [place of security, stronghold]; lead me [guide me, direct me] and guide me [instruct me, show me the way] for the sake of Your name [Your reputation, Your honor]. word study 4 You [my Rock, my Strength] free me from the net [a hidden trap, a secret snare] laid out for me, for You are my refuge [my stronghold, my place of safety]. word study 5 Into Your [trustworthy, faithful] hands I commit [entrust, give over] my spirit [my life, my being]; You have redeemed [bought back, saved] me, O LORD [the covenant God], God [El, the powerful One] of truth [faithfulness, reliability]. word study 6 I hate [abhor, detest] those who cling [give themselves, devote] to worthless [lying, false] idols [vanities, empty things], but in the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] I trust [have confidence, put my faith]. word study 7 I will be glad [rejoice with joy] and rejoice [celebrate with happiness] in Your loving devotion [faithful love, mercy], for You have seen [considered, looked upon] my affliction [trouble, problems]; You have known [been aware of, understood] the anguish [sorrows, adversities] of my soul [my inner being, my heart]. word study 8 You have not delivered [handed over, given into the power of] me to the enemy [my hater, those who oppose me]; You have set [placed, established] my feet [my steps, my path] in the open [a large place, a broad space, freedom]. word study 9 Be merciful [have pity, show compassion] to me, O LORD [the covenant God], for I am in distress [trouble, deep sorrow]; my eyes [sight, vision] fail [are consumed, wasted away] from sorrow [grief, provocation], my soul [inner being, spirit] and body [physical form, flesh] as well [completely, utterly]. word study 10 For my life [spent with sorrow, wasted away] is consumed with grief [vexation, deep sadness] and my years with groaning [sighing, mourning]; my iniquity [sin, wrongdoing] has drained my strength [failed because of my pain], and my bones [inner being, deepest self] are wasting away [consumed, becoming weak]. word study 11 Among all my enemies [those who oppose me, adversaries] I am a disgrace [reproach, object of shame], and among my neighbors [those who live nearby, acquaintances] even more [exceedingly, specially]. I am dreaded [feared, a horror] by my friends [acquaintances, those who know me]— they flee [run away, take flight] when they see me on the street [in public, without]. word study 12 I am forgotten [as if dead, out of mind and memory] like a dead man [a corpse, lifeless], out of mind [from their thoughts and remembrance]. I am like [similar to, comparable with] a broken [shattered, useless] vessel [a perishing, worthless pot]. word study 13 For I hear the slander [defaming, evil account] of many; there is terror [fear, dread] on every side [surrounding me]. They conspire [take counsel, plot] against me and plot [devise, plan] to take my life [end my existence, kill me]. word study 14 But I trust [have faith, rely] in You, O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God]; I say [declare, affirm], “You are [exist as, are revealed as] my God [Elohim, my sovereign Lord].” word study 15 My times [chances of my life, whole life] are in Your [the Lord’s] hands; deliver me from my enemies [those who hate me, persecute me] and from those who pursue [go after, persecute] me. word study 16 Make Your face shine [shine with favor, look kindly] on Your servant [faithful follower, one who serves]; save me [rescue, deliver] by Your loving devotion [mercies, trustworthy love, kindness]. word study 17 O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], let me not be ashamed [disgraced, confounded], for I have called [prayed, cried out] on You. Let the wicked [sinners, ungodly] be put to shame [disappointed, disgraced]; let them lie silent [be still, become mute] in Sheol [the grave, the underworld]. word study 18 May lying [false, deceitful] lips be silenced [put to silence, dumb]— lips that speak with arrogance [proudly, insolently] against the righteous [upright, good people], full of pride [haughtiness, contempt] and contempt [disdain, scorn]. word study 19 How great is Your goodness [abundant, stored up] which You have laid up for those who fear [revere, have awe of] You, which You have bestowed [worked, done] before the sons of men on those who take refuge [trust, go to for help] in You! word study 20 You hide them in the secret place [hidden from human eyes, in the covert] of Your presence [before the face of God, in Your shelter] from the schemes [plots, pride] of men. You conceal them in Your shelter [pavilion, tabernacle] from accusing [strife, angry] tongues. word study 21 Blessed be the LORD [the supreme God, Yehovah], for He has shown me His loving devotion [marvellous kindness, wonderful trustworthy love] in a city [strong city, being attacked] under siege [surrounded by enemies]. word study 22 In my alarm [fear, terrified] I said, “I am cut off [separated, destroyed] from Your sight [presence, eyes]!” But You heard [listened to, gave ear to] my plea [voice, cry] for mercy [kindness, pity] when I called [cried, prayed] to You for help [assistance, rescue]. word study 23 Love [have affection for, be devoted to] the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God], all His saints [faithful ones]. The LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God] preserves [keeps safe, protects] the faithful [loyal, trustworthy], but fully repays [recompenses, rewards abundantly] the arrogant [proud, having excessive pride]. word study 24 Be strong [put away fear] and courageous [let your heart take courage], all [ye who trust, who are waiting] you who hope [who put your hope, who confidently expect] in the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God]. word study
