Psalms 45
BSA1 My heart [is overflowing, is inditing] is stirred [moved, overflowing] by a noble [good, beautiful] theme [matter, message] as I recite [speak, tell] my verses [things I have made, works] to the king [ruler, monarch]; my tongue [language, voice] is the pen [instrument, tool] of a skillful [ready, swift] writer [author, scribe]. word study 2 You are the most handsome [fairer than the children of men] of men; grace [poured into thy lips] has anointed [given gracious and eloquent speech to] your lips, since God [the supreme blessor] has blessed [given divine favor to] you forever [for all eternity]. word study 3 Strap your sword [gird upon thy thigh] at your side, O mighty [most powerful] warrior; appear [stride out, come forth] in your majesty [glory, splendor] and splendor [beauty, grandeur]. word study 4 In your [glorious, majestic] splendor [glorious or impressive appearance] ride forth [prosperously, victoriously] in victory [triumphantly, with great might] on behalf of [for the sake of, in defense of] truth [faithfulness, reliability] and humility [meekness, gentleness] and justice [righteousness, fairness]; may your right hand show [display, demonstrate] your awesome [fearful, terrifying] deeds [mighty works, wonderful acts]. word study 5 Your arrows [sharp, piercing] pierce the hearts [the innermost being, the seat of emotions] of the king’s foes [enemies, those who oppose]; the nations [peoples, many countries] fall [are brought down, succumb] beneath your feet [in submission, under your authority]. word study 6 Your throne [seat of royal power], O God [Elohim, the supreme Ruler], endures [remains forever, is eternal] forever and ever [through all ages, perpetually], and justice [righteousness, fairness] is the scepter [rod of power] of Your kingdom [reign, dominion]. word study 7 You have loved [with passion and commitment] righteousness [uprightness, moral integrity] and hated [abhorred, rejected] wickedness [evil, sinful actions]; therefore God [Elohim, the supreme God], your God, has anointed [appointed, set apart] you above your companions [fellow kings, peers] with the oil of joy [gladness, delightful happiness]. word study 8 All your garments [smell of] are fragrant with myrrh [a sweet, costly perfume] and aloes [a fragrant wood] and cassia [a sweet spice]; from palaces [ivory houses, royal residences] of ivory [a valuable, pure material] the harps [stringed instruments] make you glad [fill you with joy, rejoice your heart]. word study 9 The daughters [noblewomen, princesses] of kings are among your honored women [those who are esteemed, precious]; the queen [royal consort, bride] stands at your right hand [position of honor, authority], adorned with the gold [precious, refined metal] of Ophir [a region known for its wealth, fine gold]. word study 10 Listen, O daughter [hear and obey, O bride]! Consider [think carefully, ponder] and incline [bow down, turn] your ear [to hear and understand]: Forget [leave behind, abandon] your people [relatives, family] and your father’s house [ancestral home, heritage], word study 11 and the king [the supreme ruler, monarch] will desire [long for, be pleased with] your beauty [loveliness, attractiveness]; bow [worship, show reverence] to him, for he is your lord [master, sovereign, the one in authority]. word study 12 The Daughter [princess, noblewoman] of Tyre will come with a gift [offering, present]; men [people, rich ones] of wealth [prosperity, riches] will seek [entreat, intreat] your favor [approval, good will]. word study 13 All glorious [in great splendor, completely beautiful] is the princess [king’s daughter, royal bride] in her chamber [within the palace, in her preparation room]; her gown [clothing, robes] is embroidered [inwrought, of wrought gold] with gold [golden thread, of brodred golde]. word study 14 In [colorful, embroidered, broidered] colorful garments [of needlework, intricate filigree] she is led [brought, comes] to the king [ruler, monarch]; her virgin [unmarried] companions [maids, attendants, followers] are brought [led, come] before you [to your presence, into your sight]. word study 15 They are led [with grandeur, in a joyful procession] in with joy [happiness, gladness] and gladness [rejoicing, delight]; they enter [come into, approach] the palace [royal residence, kingdom] of the king [ruler, sovereign]. word study 16 Your sons [instead of your fathers, taking their place] will succeed your fathers; you will make them [rulers] princes throughout the land [all the earth, many countries]. word study 17 I will commemorate [make remembered, keep in memory] your name [reputation, character] through all [every, entire] generations; therefore [because of this, as a result] the nations [peoples, Gentiles] will praise [give thanks, extol] you forever [always, throughout eternity] and ever [without end, perpetually]. word study
