1 O LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God], do not rebuke [reprove, scold] me in Your anger [wrath, hot displeasure] or discipline [chasten, punish] me in Your wrath [fury, intense anger]. word study 2 Be merciful [have mercy, show compassion] to me, O LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God], for I am frail [weak, withered away]; heal me, O LORD, for my bones [body, inner being] are in agony [troubled, vexed]. word study 3 My soul [I, the inner being] is deeply distressed [sorely vexed, troubled, and dismayed] [because of my weakness]. How long [until when, for how much longer], O LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], how long [will you delay, until you help me]? word study 4 Turn, O [Yehovah] LORD, and deliver my [living being, essence] soul; save me because of Your [faithful, trustworthy] loving devotion [mercies, kindness]. word study 5 For there is no mention [remembrance, memory] of You [the Lord] in death [the grave, Sheol]; who can praise [give thanks to] You from Sheol [the underworld, the place of the dead]? word study 6 I am weary [exhausted, spent] from groaning [sighing, mourning]; all night [every night, the entire night] I flood [make to swim, water] my bed [couch, resting place] with weeping [tears, lamentation] and drench [water, soak] my couch [bed, place of rest] with tears [sorrow, grief]. word study 7 My eyes [are consumed, waste away] fail from grief [sorrow, deep emotional pain]; they grow dim [become weak, old] because of all [every one of] my foes [enemies, adversaries]. word study 8 Depart from me, all [every one of] you workers [people who practice] of iniquity [wickedness, evil], for the LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] has heard [given ear to, listened to] my weeping [voice of sorrow, crying]. word study 9 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has heard [listened with attention and obedience] my cry [voice of weeping, supplication] for mercy [petition, prayer]; the LORD accepts [receives, will receive] my prayer [calling out for help]. word study 10 All my enemies [those who hate me, oppose me] will be ashamed [confounded, deeply troubled] and dismayed [sore vexed, greatly disquieted]; they will turn back [return, get away] in sudden [immediate, instant] disgrace [shame, disgraced suddenly]. word study
