Psalms 60
BSA1 You [O God, our sovereign Lord] have rejected [cast us off, put us away from you] us, O God; You have broken [shattered, scattered] us; You have been [were, have shown yourself to be] angry [displeased, full of indignation]; restore [turn back to, welcome] us! word study 2 You have shaken [trembled, caused to quake] the land [earth, ground] and torn [rent, split] it open [apart, asunder]. Heal [mend, restore] its fractures [breaches, brokenness], for it is quaking [shaking, trembling]. word study 3 You have shown Your people [caused us to suffer] hardship [hard things, heavy times]; we are staggered [made to drink the wine of astonishment, forced to drink strong wine] from the wine [of staggering, of giddiness] You made us drink [given us to drink, caused us to drink]. word study 4 You have raised [given, established] a banner [ensign, standard] for those who fear [revere, respect] You, that they may flee [take refuge, escape] the bow [arrow, attack]. Selah word study 5 Respond [and hear our prayer, answer us] and save [rescue, deliver] us with Your right hand [power, strength], that Your beloved [loved ones, dear people] may be delivered [saved, protected, drawn out]. word study 6 God [the Almighty, sovereign Lord] has spoken [declared, uttered] from His sanctuary [holy place, temple]: “I will triumph [exult, rejoice]! I will parcel out [divide, apportion] Shechem [a city in Manasseh] and apportion [measure out, mete out] the Valley of Succoth [a fertile region]. word study 7 Gilead [a region in eastern Palestine] is Mine, and Manasseh [a tribe of Israel] is Mine; Ephraim [the strength of my head] is My helmet [defense of my head], Judah [my lawgiver] is My scepter. word study 8 Moab [my washpot, a place for cleansing] is My washbasin [a vessel for purification]; upon Edom I toss [cast out, throw away] My sandal [a sign of dominance, ownership]; over Philistia [a region of spiritual darkness] I shout [exult, triumph] in triumph [victorious praise, joyful acclaim].” word study 9 Who will bring me to the [strong] fortified city? Who will lead me to [the land of] Edom? word study 10 Have You [rejected, cast off] not rejected us, O God [Elohim, the supreme Being]? Will You [cease to] no longer march out, O God [as our Leader], with our armies? word study 11 Give us aid [help from trouble, assistance against our enemies] against the enemy [adversary, those who oppose us], for the help [deliverance, salvation] of man [humanity, mortal beings] is worthless [vain, without value]. word study 12 With [through, by the power of] God [Elohim, the supreme God] we will perform [do valiantly, achieve great things] with [having, in] valor [strength, courage], and He will [enable us to, cause us to] trample [tread down, crush underfoot] our enemies [adversaries, those who oppose us]. word study
