Psalms 71
BSA1 In You [my Rock, my Shelter], O LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], I have taken refuge [trusted, sought protection]; let me never [to the age, forever] be put to shame [disappointed, ashamed, confused]. word study 2 In Your [righteous, just] justice [virtue, morality], rescue [snatch away, deliver] and deliver [set free, save] me; incline [stretch, bend] Your ear [ability to hear, listen] and save [rescue, free from danger] me. word study 3 Be my rock [strong habitation, place of refuge] of refuge, where I can always go [continually resort]. Give the command [to appoint, to ordain] to save me [to deliver, to rescue], for You are my rock [crag, strong and secure place] and my fortress [place of protection]. word study 4 Deliver me, O my [supreme] God [Elohim], from the hand [an open hand; strength, a side or share] of the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin], from the grasp [palm, firm hold] of the unjust [acting wrongly, deviating from right] and ruthless [cruel, oppressive, causing harm]. word study 5 For [because of this reason] You [my Lord] are my hope [my trust, expectation], O Lord [Adonay, my Master] GOD [Yehovah], my confidence [trust, refuge] from my youth [the time of being young, formative years]. word study 6 I have leaned [trusted, depended] on You [as my support] since birth; You pulled [took, brought] me from my mother’s [belly] womb [from the very beginning, belly]. My praise [song of thanksgiving] is always [continually, constantly] for You [in Your presence, to Your glory]. word study 7 I have become [a wonder, a miracle, a sign] a portent [to all, a spectacle] to many [people, individuals], but You [my mighty] are my strong [safe place, shelter, fortress] refuge [my trust, my hope]. word study 8 My mouth [lip, edge of speech] is filled [to be completely full, satisfied] with Your praise [a song of worship] and with Your splendor [beauty, glorious honor] all [every, the whole] day [a 24-hour period, a space of time] long [continually, throughout]. word study 9 Do not [reject, cast away] discard me in my [later years, advanced age] old age; do not [abandon, leave helpless] forsake me when my [physical power, inner strength] strength fails. word study 10 For my enemies [haters, those who oppose me] speak against me, and those who lie in wait [watch, secretly plot] for my life [soul, living being] conspire [take counsel, plan together] [unitedly, in agreement], word study 11 saying, “God [Elohim, the supreme Being] has forsaken [abandoned, relinquished] him; pursue [chase after with hostile intent] him and seize [capture, take hold of] him, for [because, since] there is [exists] no one [none, nothing] to rescue [deliver, snatch away from danger] him.” word study 12 Be not [do not be distant] far from me, O God [Elohim, the one supreme God]. Hurry [make haste, come quickly], O my God [the God of my salvation], to help [to aid, bring assistance] me. word study 13 May the accusers [adversaries, those opposing] of my soul [living being, essence] be ashamed [disappointed, humiliated] and consumed [finished, used up]; may those who seek [search for, desire] my harm [bad, evil] be covered [enwrapped, overwhelmed] with scorn [reproach, shame] and disgrace [dishonor, humiliation]. word study 14 But I [as for me, I myself] will always [continually, constantly] hope [wait with expectation, trust] and will praise [give thanks, sing hymns to] You more and more [yet more, increasingly, to a greater extent]. word study 15 My mouth [lip, edge of expression] will declare Your righteousness [virtue, moral integrity] and Your salvation [deliverance, rescue] all [every, the whole] day long, though I cannot know [understand, comprehend] their full measure [numbers, extent]. word study 16 I will enter [come, go] in the strength [might, power] of the Lord [Adonay, Master] GOD [Yehovah]; I will proclaim [make mention, declare] Your righteousness [justice, virtue] [exclusively, uniquely]—Yours alone [separately, apart from all others]. word study 17 O God [Elohim, the supreme God], You have taught [instructed, guided] me from my [early] youth [the state of being young], and to this day [hitherto, until now] I proclaim [declare openly, tell boldly] Your [wondrous] marvelous deeds [works, wonders]. word study 18 Even when I am old [in advanced years, with grey hair] and gray [with a long life, experienced], do not forsake [abandon, leave helpless] me, O God [Elohim, the supreme Almighty], until I proclaim [declare, tell openly] Your power [strength, might] to the next generation [those to come, future descendants], Your might [greatness, ability] to all who are to come [every one that shall come, all future people]. word study 19 Your righteousness [divine justice, moral virtue] reaches to the heavens [the highest point, the sky], O God [Elohim, the supreme one], You who have done [accomplished, made] great things [mighty deeds, wonderful works]. Who, O God, is like You [similar to, comparable with]? word study 20 Though You have shown me many [great and sore] troubles [and bitter distresses] and misfortunes [adversities], You will revive me [quicken me, give me life] once again [from the dead]. Even from the depths [the deep waters, the abyss] of the earth [the land, the underworld] You will bring me back up [lift me up, raise me]. word study 21 You will increase [multiply, cause to grow] my honor [greatness, dignity] and comfort [show pity, surround with sympathy] me once again [on every side, in every way]. word study 22 So I will praise You with the harp [a musical instrument, like a lyre] for Your faithfulness [truth, stability], O my God [Elohim, the supreme One]; I will sing praise to You with the lyre [a stringed instrument], O Holy One [set apart, sacred] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob]. word study 23 When I sing [make melody, play the harp] praise to You my lips [language, voice] will shout [cry aloud, greatly rejoice] for joy, along with my soul [living being, essence], which [that] You have redeemed [ransomed, rescued, set free]. word study 24 My tongue [also, even] will indeed proclaim Your righteousness [moral integrity, justice] all day long [every day, continually], for those who seek [search for, desire] my harm [evil, adversity] are disgraced [ashamed, humiliated] and confounded [perplexed, put to shame]. word study
