Worsley1 About this time as Jesus passed through the cornfields on the sabbath-day, his disciples being hungry began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat 2 And when the pharisees saw they said to Him, See, thy disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath. 3 But He replied, 5 work the priests do in the temple on the sabbath-days, and are blameless?} 7 means, “I desire mercy rather than sacrifice,” ye would not have condemned the guiltless.} 9 And he went away and came into their synagogue: and there being a man who had a withered hand, 10 they asked Him, if it were lawful to heal on the sabbath-days? that they might accuse Him. 11 But He said unto them, sheep fall into a pit on the sabbath-day, will not lay hold of it and lift out?} 12 then it is lawful to do good on the sabbath-days.} 13 Then saith He to the man, and he stretched out, and it was made sound like the other. 14 But the pharisees went out and took counsel together against Him, how they might destroy Him: 15 but Jesus knew and withdrew from thence; and great multitudes followed Him 16 and he healed them all, charging them not to make Him known: 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Behold my servant whom I have chosen, 18 my beloved in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon Him, and He shall declare judgement to the nations: He shall not contend, 19 nor cry aloud, nor shall any one hear his voice in the streets: 20 a bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax he will not extinguish, till He send forth judgement victorious. 21 And in his name shall the Gentiles hope. 22 Then was brought to Him a demoniac, blind and dumb; and he healed Him, so that the blind and dumb both spake and saw: 23 and all the multitudes were amazed, and said, “Is not this the Son of David?" 24 which the pharisees hearing, said, “He only casts out demons by Beelzebub the prince of the devils." 25 But Jesus, who knew their thoughts, said to them, 27 Beelzebub, by whom do your own people cast out? wherefore they shall be your judges:} 28 certainly the kingdom of God is come unto you.} 29 enter into the house of a strong and take away his goods, unless he first overpower the strong man? and then he may strip his house.} 31 Spirit shall not be forgiven them:} 32 speak against the Son of man, it may be forgiven him: but if any speak against the holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this life, nor in that to come.} 33 good, and it’s fruit good; or shew the tree corrupt, and it’s fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by fruit.} 34 who are wicked? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.} 35 and a wicked man out of the wicked treasure uttereth wicked } 38 Then some of the scribes and pharisees answered saying, Master, we should be glad to see a sign from thee: 39 but He replied and said unto them, 41 the men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgement against this generation, and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold a greater than Jonas is here.} 42 shall rise up in the judgement against this generation, and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold a greater than Solomon here.} 43 places, seeking rest, and findeth none:} 45 seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. And thus shall it be to this wicked generation.} 46 Now as He was yet discoursing to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, and desired to speak to Him: 47 and somebody said to Him, “Here are thy mother and thy brethren standing without, desiring to speak to thee." 48 But in answer to him that told Him, He said, 49 and stretching out his hand towards his disciples, He said, 50 in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother.}
