Context — Hanani’s Message to Asa
7At that time Hanani the seer came to King Asa of Judah and told him, “Because you have relied on the king of Aram and not on the LORD your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand.
8Were not the Cushites and Libyans a vast army with many chariots and horsemen? Yet because you relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand. 9For the eyes of the LORD roam to and fro over all the earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully devoted to Him. You have acted foolishly in this matter. From now on, therefore, you will be at war.”Cross References

2 Chronicles 16:7 Summary
This verse teaches us that when we trust in people or things instead of God, we might not get the good results we were hoping for, as seen in 2 Chronicles 16:7. King Asa of Judah made a mistake by relying on the king of Aram for help instead of trusting in the Lord God. We can learn from his mistake by remembering to trust in God's power and provision, as encouraged in Psalm 20:7-8, and seeking His guidance in our decision-making, as advised in Proverbs 3:5-6. By trusting in God, we can experience His blessings and victories in our lives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Hanani the seer rebuke King Asa of Judah?
Hanani rebuked King Asa because he had relied on the king of Aram for help instead of trusting in the Lord God, as seen in 2 Chronicles 16:7, which is similar to the warning in Psalm 20:7-8 where trust in God is emphasized over human strength.
What is the significance of the army of the king of Aram escaping from King Asa's hand?
The escape of the army of the king of Aram signifies that King Asa's decision to rely on human alliances rather than God's power resulted in a missed opportunity for victory, as stated in 2 Chronicles 16:7, highlighting the importance of faith in God as seen in Romans 8:28.
How does this verse relate to the concept of faith and trust in God?
This verse illustrates the importance of trusting in God's power and provision rather than relying on human strength or alliances, a theme also found in Proverbs 3:5-6, where it is written to trust in the Lord with all your heart.
What can we learn from King Asa's mistake in this verse?
We can learn that when we put our trust in human beings or worldly systems instead of God, we may miss out on the blessings and victories that God has in store for us, as seen in Jeremiah 17:5-8 where cursed is the man who trusts in mankind.
