ReferenceText (BSB)
1 2 Chronicles 21:5–10 Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years. And Jehoram walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done. For he married a daughter of Ahab and did evil in the sight of the LORD. Yet the LORD was unwilling to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant He had made with David, and since He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever. In the days of Jehoram, Edom rebelled against the hand of Judah and appointed their own king. So Jehoram crossed into Edom with his officers and all his chariots. When the Edomites surrounded him and his chariot commanders, he rose up and attacked by night. So to this day Edom has been in rebellion against the hand of Judah. Likewise, Libnah rebelled against his rule at the same time, because Jehoram had forsaken the LORD, the God of his fathers.

2 Kings 8:17 Summary

2 Kings 8:17 tells us about King Jehoram, who became king of Judah at the age of 32 and reigned for 8 years. This information helps us understand the context of his life and decisions as king. Just like King Solomon, who also became king at a relatively young age (1 Kings 2:12), Jehoram's age and experiences would have influenced his reign. As we reflect on Jehoram's story, we can remember that our choices and actions have consequences, and we should strive to follow God's ways, just as He promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever (2 Kings 8:19, 2 Samuel 7:12-16).

From this verse, we learn that Jehoram was 32 years old when he became king and reigned in Jerusalem for 8 years, as stated in 2 Kings 8:17. This information provides context for his reign and decisions as king.

How does Jehoram's age at the start of his reign compare to other kings in the Bible?
