6Behold, I Myself have selected your fellow Levites from the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD to perform the service for the Tent of Meeting.
7But only you and your sons shall attend to your priesthood for everything concerning the altar and what is inside the veil, and you are to perform that service. I am giving you the work of the priesthood as a gift, but any outsider who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death.” 8Then the LORD said to Aaron, “Behold, I have put you in charge of My offerings. Numbers 18:6 Summary
In Numbers 18:6, God tells the Israelites that He has chosen the Levites to serve Him in the Tent of Meeting. This means that the Levites were given a special job to help take care of the Tent and assist the priests with their duties. Just like the Levites, we can all serve God and others in our own unique ways, using the gifts and talents that He has given us (1 Corinthians 12:4-11, Ephesians 4:11-12). By serving others, we can show our love and appreciation for God and for the people around us.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did God choose the Levites to serve in the Tent of Meeting?
God chose the Levites as a gift to the Israelites, dedicating them to the Lord to perform the service for the Tent of Meeting, as seen in Numbers 18:6, and this selection was based on God's sovereign will, similar to how He chose the Israelites as His own special people in Deuteronomy 7:6.
What was the role of the Levites in the Tent of Meeting?
The Levites were responsible for performing the service for the Tent of Meeting, as stated in Numbers 18:6, which included various duties such as maintaining the Tent and its furnishings, and assisting the priests with their responsibilities, as mentioned in Numbers 18:4.
How does this verse relate to the concept of spiritual gifts?
This verse illustrates how God gives different gifts and responsibilities to different people, such as the Levites, to serve Him and His people, which is a concept also seen in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, where the Apostle Paul discusses the various spiritual gifts given to believers.
What can we learn from God's gift of the Levites to the Israelites?
We can learn that God's gifts are often given to benefit others, and that He provides people with unique roles and responsibilities to serve Him and His people, as seen in Ephesians 4:11-12, where the Apostle Paul writes about the different gifts given to believers for the building up of the body of Christ.
