100 MARRIAGE - A TYPE OF THE CHURCH
INTRODUCTION Christians said to be married to Christ. (Romans 7:4.) Christ has honored the relation of husband and wife by illustrating the relation of Christians to himself.
I. ONE HUSBAND, ONE WIFE ; ONE CHRIST AND ONE CHURCH 1. The church, the bride of Christ. (Revelation 21:9.) 2. One church, onl y one Christ. (Revelation 19:7-8.) 3. One man created; one woman for him .
(a) Woman taken from the side of man. (Genesis 2:20-22.) (b) Christ suffered before the church could be formed.
(c) Church could not be built till Christ was raised from the dead. (Matthew 16:18; Matthew 16:20.) II. CHURCH BEARS NAME OF CHRIST 1. Wife honors hu sband by wearing his name.
2. He recognizes her by no other name .
3. So Christ honors the church with his name.
III. SPIRITUAL ADULTERY 1. Israel did . (Jeremiah 3:8.) 2. Churches do . (Revelation 2:22 .) 3. Cannot give our affections to another institution .
