130 THE PRIESTHOOD Romans 12:1-2;1 Peter 2:5;1 Peter 2:9
INTRODUCTION Three classes-priests, prophets and kings; difference between priest and prophet; all three classes converge in Christ.
I. PRIESTHOOD UNDER THE LAW 1. One high priest.
2. Many ordinary or secondary priests. (2 Kings 23:4; 2 Kings 25:18; Jeremiah 52:24.) 3. Laws governing the priests. (Leviticus 21.)
4. Sacrifices.
5. Altar (holy if touch the altar). (Exodus 29:37.) II. QUALIFICATIONS 1. Without blemish. (Leviticus 21:17-21.) 2. Consecrated to God-holy.
3. Clothed with holy garments.
4. Mary a virgin. (Leviticus 21:13-14.) III. DUTIES OF PRIESTS 1. Teach the people. (2 Chronicles 15:3; Micah 3:11.) 2. Make sacrifices. (Leviticus 4:5-6; Leviticus 4:26.) 3. Encourage the people to worship.
4. No priest excused.
IV. PRIESTHOOD UNDER CHRIST 1. One High Priest-Christ. (Hebrews 3:1.) 2. Many ordinary-a ll Christians. (1 Peter 2:5; Revelation 1:6.) 3. Law governing them-New Testament .
4. Sacrifices-our bodies. (Romans 12:1; Hebrews 13:16.) 5. The altar-the church. (Hebrews 13:10.)
CONCLUSION No excuse for us; must keep ourselves holy as priests under Christ our High Priest or be condemned.
