After learning that all types looked forward to one church, and not many churches, that Christ would establish, we now come to a closer study. In this lesson we learn that Jesus is our law giver, and as he is to give laws to govern his people it becomes of interest to all to know these laws and to examine our own hearts to see if we can claim to be his children by the way we obey said laws. Not only is he a law giver, but a ruler. We are to be ruled by said laws. As soldiers we recognize him as our captain. As a captain teaches his soldiers and leads them to victory on the battlefield, Christ leads us. To show the care he has for us he claims to be our shepherd, our chief, and our head. As all bodies are expected to be controlled by the head, the body, or church of Christ, can not be loyal to Christ, the head, unless its members do all the things he commands. As a lawgiver we show our love to him by the interest we take in his law. As he is the leader and we are to follow, our faith is tested by the way we follow his commandments.
