Numbers 29:1

SEventh moneth] The moneth Tizri, which containeth part of September, and part of October.

blowing the trumpets] The first day of the moneth forementioned; for it was the new moon; so the Hebrewes account their moneth, (making the first day of the new moone the first day of the moneth) and in the new moone the trumpet was to be blowne Numbers 10:10. Psalms 81:3. especially in this moneth, wherein (besides this feast) was the feast of expiation, and the feast of Tabernacles, at which the people were assembled by the sound of the trumpet; and this feast of trumpets was instituted, and so called in memoriall of the giving of the Law at mount Sinai, with the shrill and dreadfull sound of a trumpet, Exodus 19:19. See Annot. on Levit. 23. vers. 24.

Numbers 29:6

his meat-offering] His in the masculine gender, because the offering was a male without blemish.

Numbers 29:7

afflict your souls] This is on the feast of expiation; whereof see Leviticus 23:27.

Numbers 29:11

continuall burnt-offering] That is, offered every morning and every evening.

Numbers 29:12

fifteenth day] That is, the feast of Tabernacles celebrated the fifteenth day of the moneth Tizri: see vers. 1. and Annot. on Leviticus 23:34.

Numbers 29:13

thirteene] The number of the beasts are increased because of the solemnitie of the feast, being a memoriall of their safe protection those 40 yeers in the desert, and because the yeerly increase being come in, they had both the more cause, and the more store for the exercise of religious liberality. Deut. 16. 13, 15.

Numbers 29:17

second day] Of the feast of Tabernacles.

Numbers 29:18

after the manner] That is according to the ceremonies appointed thereunto; so also vers. 21. 24, 27.

Numbers 29:32

on the seventh day seven bullocks] From thirteen young bullocks, vers. 12. every day one abated untill the seventh; seven must then be offered, and no fewer, besides other oblations offered in a constant and certaine number.
