Psalms 133:1

Brothers are connected by family, by work, or by loyalty. In this psalm, brothers means all members of the community, including men and women, who live in unity.

Psalms 133:2

  • The fine oil was used to appoint and set apart Aaron for his role as priest (see Exodus 29:7).

  • head … beard … collar of his robes: The oil set Aaron apart completely for God’s service.

Psalms 133:3

  • The dew represents the richness of God’s blessings (his goodness and care). In Jerusalem, this moisture comes from winds off the Mediterranean Sea. Mount Hermon, which has snow on its peak, is known for its abundant moisture.

  • A blessing is God’s life-giving power. It shows his provision (care for needs) and protection (Psalm 5:12; 41:2). It also comes from his presence (21:6; 67:1). In the end, all nations will receive God’s blessing (Psalms 67; 72:17). Zion is the central place of God's blessing (Psalms 134:3; 147:13).

  • God gives everlasting life to people.
