Psalms 93
DortThe Psalmist sheweth and extoileth here the Majesty power and holiness of the Kingdom of Christ, for the protection of his Church.
1. The LORD reigneth [The meaning of these words is, God is the true eternal King, which hath raigned from all eternity, reigneth still and shall reign world without end eternally, Psa.96.10 and 97.1. and 99.1.] he is cloathed with Highness; [or Majesty. See ten Annot. Job 40:5.] the LORD is cloathed with strength, he hath girded himself: the world likewise is established, it shall not waver: [i.e. the great weight of this vast earthly globe is balanced onely by his power, that it doth and cannot swarve the least from this or that side. Thus shall the Lord likewise keep up and protect his Church throughout the world.]
2. From thence is thy Throne established: [viz. Even from eternity, and in particular, (for matter of the actual exercise of judgement) ever since the world was created and established: compare, Prov.8.22. where this kind of speaking is taken from eternity] Thou art from eternity.
3. The rivers lift up, O LORD, the rivers lift up their roarig: [Heb. Their voices. By the noise of floods and waters, is of times understood the great stir and rage of Tyrants, and multitudes against God and his Church, Psalms 18:5. and 65.8. Isai.17.12,13.] the rivers lift up their hurtings (or beatings, percussions.)
4. (Yet) the LORD on high [i.e. in heaven, as Psalms 71:19.] is more powerful, then the roaring [Hebr. The voices] of great waters, [or, many waters] (then) the mighty waves of the Sea.
5. Thy Testimonies are very faithfull, [That is, thy word which thou hast given us, to testify that thou art our God] the holiness [viz. Wherewith thou dost sanctify, endue and adorm thy children] is comely for thine house, [understand here not so much the outward structure of the Temple or Tabernacle, as the living stones, viz. The true believers, which are the true Church and House of God;] LORD, for long days. [Hebr. For length of Days, i.e. continually, evermore, or during many days: See Psalms 23:6.]
